So, good enough.

The 3 download only limit per books I bumped into.
Who has a 3 download only limit? I've seen that mentioned before but I don't remember who had it.

I've never encountered that. I just went and downloaded a previously downloaded book another three times and had no problem. I have four copies of the book in ADE now. I'm on an old version so maybe that's why - v1.7.2.1131. Or did you mean download to three different devices?

AFAIK download limits for Adobe DRM are set by the retailer/publisher and can be anything from one to unlimited downloads. I've downloaded quite a few books more than three times.

If the conversion from printed book to ebook is 100% perfect, then I wouldn't even bother with the DRM. But it's far from perfect. OCR sucks. Typo here, typo there. Format oddities over here and there.

Just read Amazon customer's reviews complaining about typo and format oddities. They are everywhere.

As a side note, here's real life examples how DRM screwed consumers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital...t#Obsolescence.

OCR problems have nothing whatsoever to do with DRM. Most modern eBooks are pretty good - it tends to be backlist books that have OCR issues.

My guess is that he wants to correct OCR errors manually.

I think that Julius Caesar meant that DRM prevented readers fixing formatting problems and typos.

But you should bear in mind that this is only possible because people (the tools writers, maintainers and distributors) have been willing to risk prosecution to make the tools available and usable.

This is not a stable situation. It could change at any moment.

one doesn't need any deep technical knowledge to edit an ebook since plenty of tools are already available. Once the file has been disinfected, unpack it with kindle unpack, edit the source file and recompile with kindlegen. Done!

You'd be surprised how many people look at you with a blank face when faced with the prospect of using command-line tools.

I agree with you that editing ebooks is not difficult, but then, neither is DRM removal.

I hate command line tools myself. That's why I use Drag&Drop AppleScript wrappers for KindleUnpack and KindleGen.
