That is good. My tastes don't seem to coincide these days with most of the content, or I have read the books years ago. I do post if I think I can add something, but that has not been often. Just different people, different reading choices

Nah, nobody's business what I read. I post an occasional review on Amazon or Goodreads. I may recommend books to friends if they ask, and if I read a really interesting non-fiction book I may bring it up in conversation. If I hear people discussing a book I thought was truly awful (Like "50 shades of Grey") I may say that I didn't like it, but I may also keep quiet.

I don't really know why. Deniability, maybe?

It's too tedious to post every time I read a book, so I summarize what I've read for a month or two at a time. Posting after I've read the book allows me to provide a mini-review.

I have my Goodreads currently reading list feeding to my personal website, Facebook and Twitter. I enjoy the comments I get when someone has read what I'm reading. I also enjoy sharing meaningful quotes from what I am reading, and I keep track of these on Goodreads too. Likewise, I like seeing what my friends are reading and if someone I follow rates a book highly, I will usually check it out to see if it is something I might enjoy. I have found some of my favorite books this way. It's fun to connect with an author because you posted that you were reading their books. Similarly, it is a way for my readers to get to know me a little better without really sharing personal details with them.

I also religiously Scrobble everything I listen to via last.fm. For similar reasons... I enjoy the connections, the recommendations, and the stats these services bring to my entertainment.

Edited to add: I have very little "in person" social life. I work at home and I live in the boonies and do not have a lot of local friends. So I think this influences how involved I am in social reading and sharing.

I use Goodreads mostly for posting status updates on books I am currently reading but I also post here in Romance Deals thread what I am reading.

Sometimes I will tell hubby what I am reading but mostly I don't read in public. I'm not one who can sit at a doctor's office and read. I'm too twitchy and nervous.

Besides around here when I see someone with a eReader and try to strike up conversation they usually aren't very interested. Me I would be super excited to tell someone all about my Kindles and books and refer them to MobileRead.

I mark all the books I read in goodreads, but never on Facebook etc. Goodreads is for books, facebook is for people.

This is why I have two Facebook accounts. One for family and RL friends and one for online friends.

I don't want my mother to know alot of things period.
