Went to my FNAC store today. There was no Aura on display. Just 1 Mini, 2 Glo, 1 Touch and 1 Aura HD. Half of them couldn't even be used cause they needed to register or connect to the computer. How do they expect to sell them if they don't show them. There was something even funnier. Some "Aura" were priced at 149€ and some were priced at 169€. |

So after a week of using the Aura I've decided to just return it and wait for Kobo to sort out the quality control issues before picking another up. It's a shame as I really liked it overall. The dark line that is noticeable when using the frontlight wasn't too big of a deal, but that weird pattern that is just too painfully obvious under lamp or sunlight was a dealbreaker. I'm just not going to settle with flaws in a $150 eReader. Back to my trusty Glo for now... |

I've not noticed the diamond pattern on mine, I've looked under sun light as well as artificial, maybe it's just my long sightedness |

No exposed model of course. And when asked if they planned to have one on display at some point in the future, the answer was "probably not". The Aura HD was still exposed, but out of stock. Not a problem for the salesperson since (I quote) the three models are almost the same. The only safe solution for now is to order it online since you legally have 7 days to return it without having to explain it. As for me, I will try to wait a few month, hoping the quality problems will be fixed.

My neighbor came back from the UK today with his new Aura. It has 4 light pin holes in the display, which we both could see, but more disturbing is the pattern. I now understand what you guys meant. We still have a very sunny weather here, and it is impossible to miss. He had just bought it in a rush on his way to Gatwick, and is now looking at solutions to send it back to WHS Smith where he got it.

Big surprise, they were put two of them on display this afternoon. The Aura is small and light, that's very nice. It's really close to a Mini Glo The two-finger scroll works well and as opposed to what I've read in one review (maybe the two guys talking non-sense) it doesn't only move by 10% steps. I didn't notice some defects on the light layer, but I wasn't paying attention to that. The back is nice to the hands. I couldn't find the refresh setting and with some dim light surrounding I didn't see the diamond pattern (unless the diamonds are teeny tiny ones). That's all I could notice in less than five minutes. |

I like mine. I saw the marks that some said, seems a polish error of some sort. But you have to see it in the exact angle to notice. I don't mind on my side, I kept it. It's a nice upgrade from Touch but I'm not sure I would do it if I had already the Glo version. |

Hmmm sounds a little bit like the quality control issues that the Paperwhite had when it first came out. Makes you wonder if it's something to do with the difficulty getting the capacitive touch layer just right?

This thread is putting down my enthusiasm for the new Aura with all the quality control issues. I was looking forward to a front lit reader. The Aura HD is still available in my neck of the woods. I like the extra screen real estate and I'm used to keeping wifi off, so no real need for Beyond the Book etc unless it adds something spectacular to the experience. You all have more hands-on experience with these device - Should I wait out for the Aura production issues to stabilize or grab the HD while it's still around? |

Quality of the screen is excellent, the body is excellent, the light seems to function well with no discoloration or leaks. Very even. The software irks me, more so than the mini, and it it's overall styling as seen from the front. Reminds me of a particularly ugly picture frame more and more as time goes on. After a few pages I don't notice it, but if I pause in my reading I notice it again. It seems unbalanced somehow more than other readers. But then again I am often hard on electronics, I buy them to use, not to wrap up in tissue paper for fear of scratching or breaking them and the Aura HD has stood up very well. On the occasion that I clean it up it still looks good as new and I examineit closely. Other than ugliness, which is only my opinion, the build quality is superlative. Totally surprised on the Kobo Aura issues. Not like it is a pioneering move. Helen

Two month ago I started thinking about changing my glo which is burning my eyes while reading at night. I was about to buy an aura hd when I eared about the new aura. So I waited, and now that it's finally there I'm disappointed with all those quality issues. I wonder if I should go with an Aura Hd instead, however I would really like to get the pinch to zoom features on my new reader; any chance the aura HD get it with a future firmware? I don't know if it's technically possible...
