Hmmm. Methinks you don't understand how Amazon Prime Instant Video works. When you are a Prime member, you get access to a large number of TV shows and movies to stream for free. You don't own them - there's no promises made that shows that are free for Prime members today will still be available for watching tomorrow. If you want to be sure to have it forever, then you pay the $1.99-$2.99/episode price. If you just want to sit down and watch something now, browse the selection and stream for free.

For me, the HDX is probably not going to work. I'm pretty happy with my 1st-generation Nexus, and if I wanted a larger, sharper screen for reading on, I'd pick up a Nook HD+ with Google Play for $149 before spending nearly $400 on a Kindle locked-down tablet.

I'm hopeful.
The pricing allows for the old HD to be sold side by side the HDX models.
At a minimum a few of the software features will show up.

The "new" Fire HD has Fire OS 3.0 and it's just the 1st gen Fire HD in a new case. So there's no logical reason why they shouldn't upgrade 1st gen Fire HD's.

I would hope the new OS comes to last year's Fire considering the new Fire HD comes with the software it is just last year's model in a new case!

Did anyone notice the "new" Kindle Fire HD no longer has a front facing camera? The original one did...at least I thought mine did (Skid has it now so I can't check).

I'm not in the target market, and I prefer a larger tablet than 8.9". That said, I think this is good because it increases price competition in the Android tablet market.

It has also less storage (8 and 16 gb instead of 16 and 32 gb) and no mimo.

I'm not. For the price I paid for my Fire HD and OtterBox case ($158), I like what I have.

Though I am miffed that my Fire won't be getting the new OS 3.0 update. The lesson I'm taking away from this is to not give Amazon full price for their Fires; they "obsolete" them too fast.
