The new program looks like it is intended to extract some cash from the chains...

That sounds dishonest to me. Baen are one of the "good guys" of the ebook business. We shouldn't be trying to "game" the system.

Baen has now changed the monthly bundle program to get paid even if people are gaming the system.

Not necessarily, and not everyone. I've never owned more than a few Baen p-books, and only ever signed up for *ONE* free e-Bundle, to become more familiar with their product. I was not intending to "game" the system by getting a second freebie. If I ever do buy a bundle at full price, I'll be sure to pass the coupon along here. I do believe I'm adhering to both the spirit and the letter of their generous offers.

Even though I've participated in the chains, I still purchase books from Baen and will continue to do so. I'm actually looking at several of the Dozois/Danner anthology bundles and some NightShade bundles Baen is selling. |

I am surprised that the offer lasted as long as it did but I think it will kill the chains, but it is still a generous offer. you still get six books for $18 and a generous $9.99 gift to a friend. also I do not think baen is really in the business of giving books away, they do need to make a profit. |

Ok ,I have joined in the chains with glee. I've also bought a shed load of ebooks from Baen, many of them as a direct result of getting a freebie via the chains. Have Baen made money for their authors from this? I think so.I'll still be buying the bundles, and individual books, and if I can get some money off them, that's fine by me

It's much the same for me. Almost everything I've bought from Baen since I started participating in the chains was either a sequel to something I got in a bundle, or something else by one of those authors. |
