The Iris Johansen Loveswepts were SO good!!! I don't know if I've read any other Loveswepts. But hers were awesome.

Having a romance review (even short review) thread would be great, and I agree with dreams and others that it should be a different thread, in a different forum.

<SNIP>

I would prefer this kind of information to go to the Reading Rec forum, together with any reviews.

Sorry for not chiming in earlier, but I was first offline and then asleep . So, what do the others think?
I like your proposed name for our monthly thread and I do think anything more than what we do now should be taken to the Rec forum, if only for the freedom of not feeling boxed in, and being able to discuss as much we care to.

My mom always like the old Harlequins because they did have good stories to them. She says the new ones aren't as good. Maybe I'll pick up some of the Love Swepts for her to try. How old are you talking? Are they in ebook? Are LS still being produced, and still as good?
She likes a good contemporary romance with a strong female character. Sex is fine, she just doesn't need an instruction manual detail in the scenes! Any suggestions to add to my look for list?
Thanks!
S
P.S. No vampires, werewolves, etc either!

I hovered over that Montlake sales link. It took some strength not to click, for now.

There are a couple of Lynette Vinet on sale for .99 cents. They have just been recently put on kindle by a smaller publisher and they were first published by Leisure in 1985. So I hope that means they aren't topaz anymore if they are now with a different publisher.

1st in series Emerald Desire
http://www.amazon.com/Emerald-Desire.../dp/B00EP3G534

2nd in series Emerald Enchantment
http://www.amazon.com/Emerald-Enchan.../dp/B00EP6BBHG

I am gong to scroll up and just take a tiny peek at the montlake sale. Just a tiny.

Speaking of old Loveswepts, Cheryl Reavis, who writes for Harlequin now, has put out 5 old Loveswept titles that she wrote under the name of Cinda Richards for $0.99 each.

This Side of Paradise
One From The Heart
Such Rough Splendor
Dillon's Promise
Fire Under Heaven

I'll play the "show the purchases" game! Maybe it will keep me somewhat accountable for the dollars I've spent. Or not. That 50% off coupon from Kobo is dangerous!! I've included my audiobook purchases since they are digital and one was a whispersync deal.

The Untamed MacKenzie - Jennifer Ashley (Kobo .99)
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs - Molly Harper (Audible 3.95 )
The Ruin of a Rogue - Miranda Neville (Kobo 3.49)
The Challenge - Edith Layton (Amazon .99)
Darkness Dawns - Dianne Duvall (Amazon .99)
Darkness Dawns - Dianne Duvall (Audible 2.99) This whispersync deal may still be going on. I don't know anything about the book or author, but it looked interesting!
Until November - Aurora Rose Reynolds (Amazon 2.99) BTW, I devoured this book yesterday and loved it!
Immortals: The Haunting - Robin Popp (Amazon .99) This book is from the just posted Montlake deal. I read a lot of this series a long time ago and always meant to finish it.

Hmm, $17.48 is a bit more than I wanted to spend this week. Oh well!

I think the older late 80s/early-mid 90s books from the various Silhouette lines had that bigger variety/quirkiness in both plots and characters like the old Loveswepts. I wish Loveswept would release the backlists of Gail Douglas, Barbara Boswell, etc.

I was good this week and only bought 3 books:
  • Thanless in Death (In Death 46) by JD Robb (the personal stuff in this one make it an above average entry in this series)
  • Spotlight on Love by LJ Young
  • Playing by the Rules (Rules 2) by Imelda Evans

I agree, my intention was not to clog up the thread, merely to point out which books people did or didn't enjoy for future reference. I personally don't want to write reviews [I'd rather read!], so it was just a suggestion. I think the title you came up with is great.

I liked the idea. Just a quick rating. It would be helpful since I've gotten a sense of who has tastes similar to mine.

Exactly! You did good this week on your buys. Mine won't be so great next week [I was under, yes, under budget this week]. Next week I will be doing the rest of my Kobo buys, I'm being super stingy and hoping some of the ones on my buy list will drop, doesn't hurt to try right?!

Blossom, you wanted to know about 'Rules of Entanglement' by Gina Maxwell. Meh, I rated it a 3, enjoyed the story and characters well enough, just thought she was a little too verbose in explaining everyone's thoughts. It got repetitive after awhile and found myself skimming through that quite a bit towards last half of the book. JMO.

And I see you bought Christina Lee's 'All of You', this is on my list to buy this week also. If you happen to read it this week I'd like your thoughts.
