Re: deals on Audible books when you buy the Kindle book first, I am in Canada and the only way I can find out if there is a discount is to sign out of my Amazon account and to open the US website. The only issue is that some Audible books are not available in Canada so I have log into my Audible account to make sure they will let me buy the audio book.

Attention!

Those who bought the Entagled Covet books you may find the text is quite large if you try to convert the book in Calibre or send via email to your Kindle.

It seems the publisher has started adding the font size to the Declaration tag! I've never come across this before in the hundreds of books I've converted. It just is sooo wrong!

You will need to use Calibre's Search & Replace to fix it.

Find:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" style="font-size:1.136rem;">
and replace with
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

This appears multiple times in the document due to the way a epub/azw3 is split up.

Also if you find the Chapter headers too big you can tweak the style sheet.

Find

p.Chapter-Break {
-epub-hyphens:none;
-webkit-hyphens:none;

font-size:1.833em; <---------- Change this number here. I put mine at 1.5em

I've converted 3 books so far and they all have these problems.

I found a quick and easy way to tweak the Chapter Headers & Title which are way too big in the mobi format.

In Calibre's conversation window go to

Look & Feel Tab
Extra CSS Box

Paste into box:

p.Chapter-Break {font-size:1.5em;
p.Title {font-size:2em;
p.Title---Extra {font-size:2em;

This will override the style sheet. The original is 3em on the Titles which is HUGE on the Kindle.

Yeah they had some odd line heights in the Indulgence books too. I usually blow up the epub and fix the css. The declaration tag thing is new though. Very odd.

Isn't it. I've never seen it in a book before. It seems the original is not affected but once it is converted it seems to happen more so if you convert to mobi.

I didn't look at the line heights. I don't think mobi format supports those features.

I picked up a paperback of a late 80's historical romance. The Bluestocking Bride by Elizabeth Thornton

It has been a while since I read an older romance and I have forgotten how different they are compared to historical romances today.

Possibly changing the future titles of this thread to something like "Free/Bargain Romance ebooks (& Discussion) October 2013" would work?

Changing this thread to "Book Club" (to follow our determination of "Book Club") would mean this thread would be organized to be a Club with a chosen book selection to be read by all and then discussed. That is not what I believe is meant by those here for a "Club".

If the thread members wish to have specific reviews on the books they are reading, that would normally go into the Reading Rec forum in the thread for "Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading?". Since it appears to be that some members would like to have the addition of specific Romance genre reviews in one area, it may be best to have that separate from the Deals/Bargains Romance thread.

Maybe, starting a specific Romance Reviews thread in the Reading Rec forum would work best for keeping all the Romance Reviews in one area and make it easier to search for other reviews on the same book. Possibly, a "Romance Book Reviews only" thread would work in the Reading Rec forum?
I like the name proposed by dreams for the thread, however, do we actually need "ebooks" as this is a forum for ebook bargains anyway? How about:

Free/bargain romances (& discussion) November 2013?

Trying to keep it as short as possible while retaining all the important information, this seems best to me.

Having a romance review (even short review) thread would be great, and I agree with dreams and others that it should be a different thread, in a different forum.

I am not so sure about adding list of books we've read here. Lists of books we've bought, as in the Sunday confessions, fit the thread (as many of them are bargains, or codes or coupons were used for them). But once we shift the focus from the current price (which is what the thread is about) to the quality of the books (which may be OUP, or very expensive at the time of posting), this seems to me a decisive step towards the Reading Rec forum.

So I disagree with what dreams says here:

For example, my usual Sunday post would be as follows:
Book Buys this week: 6 books, $13
Always Enough – Stacy Borel

All I was suggesting was adding something like the following to that same post:
Books Read this week and my rating:
Perfect Chemistry – Simone Elkeles – 4.0

Just wanted to clarify my initial post.
I would prefer this kind of information to go to the Reading Rec forum, together with any reviews.

Sorry for not chiming in earlier, but I was first offline and then asleep . So, what do the others think?

I love the ole school romances. Zebra romances are my favorite. There is a thread at Goodreads that keeps track of all the ones available in ebook form.

So how do you rate it because I actually own the PB of this one too. I thought her books were available in ebook but I guess not.

I thought they were available also. Considering I paid a quarter for the book, I do not see how I lost any money. I just need to make sure the bunnies do not find it to eat. Little furry balls love to eat my paper back books.

If I stop comparing the book to what is current then, I am enjoying the book. I have read Thornton in the past and enjoyed her work. It has been awhile since I read something this old. I am just a little off in how the H/h react to each other.

As you know most all current historical books have a heroine that is fiesty and determined to do what ever she wants. It is nice sometimes but I enjoy the ole school where the female is a little on the shy side and not willing to give herself to the guy before marriage.

I will look for the thread on GR. It will be something to keep up with.

Agreed. I can't stand today's historical heroines unless they are from certain situations.

A gentle bred lady should not act like a hellion or be so brazen. It's a huge put off for me. Now if the heroine is say from the rookeries of St. Giles that attitude would fit her.

A heroine can be strong and yet not be over the top like most are in today's historical romances.

Seeing I'll probably be sleeping in I am going to go ahead and post my buys for the week.

I bought 24 books. I think that is all of them.

Currently reading Love and a Blue-Eyed Cowboy so far so good. I love outrageousness of the 80s romances.

What I love about the old LoveSwepts is they are short books that can be read in a little over 3 hours. The plots are usually unique unlike Harlequins' books. Don't get me wrong I love HQs but they don't have the quirkiness that the LoveSwepts do.

Farewell to Summer by Lazette Gifford ( 2.50). ( Well written Science Fiction mystery)
High Passion by Vivian Arend ( 3.60)
No Turning back by HelenKay Dimon ( 2.50)
Turning up the heat by Laura Florand ( 1.99)
Green Light Delivery by Anne E. Johnson (2.50)
Snowballs in Hell by Eve Langlais (1.99)
Hell's Revenge by Eve Langlais (1.99)
Fairies in my Fireplace by RL Naquin (1.99)
Shades of Grey by Maya Banks ( 3.60)
For darkness shows the stars by Diana Peterfreund (2.99 at ARe)

Not as bad as it would have been a couple of years ago. But it was well worth it, since I would have bought them anyway. Oh, and I have a couple of books that releases on Tuesday that I plan to get. .
