I prefer Android because it's more customizable than iOS. I used to have an iPod touch. At first I loved iOS. At the time I owned it I had a very cheap Android phone that was a total headache. The phone was running Gingerbread. I use T-Mobile and at that time, the company didn't have the iPhone. My phone began to act strangely so I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S II. Once that happened, I began to set why people love Android so much. This phone only runs Ice Cream Sandwich but I found I was able to do so much more with this phone than I could on the previous phone or the iPod touch. The widgets are great, the one touch calling buttons that are right on my home screen are so convenient, the ability to put unlimited app shortcuts in one folder is nice and the pull down control center is awesome. Some features have been adapted by Apple but others have not. I also own a Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean 4.3 and it had even more features I like.
iOS has a slightly better selection of apps and the apps on my iPod touch didn't crash as much as they do on my phone but this is a perfectly good tradeoff for me. I find that apps don't really crash at all on my Nexus 7. |

Same here.
I had an Iphone for a couple of years, and now have a Samsung Galaxy Note. The best part is that I can change out the battery myself, and have a spare in my purse at all times. Cheap backup. And I like being able to customize the screen, background, button size and placement. The screen is a bit bigger, which I find more comfortable to use. Plus, it was cheaper than the iPhone, and the sound was the same for me. Dear Hubby went from an iPhone to an android phone about six months after I did. He likes his better as well. |

I currently choose iOS primarily because iCloud synchronizes many things with zero effort between my phone, tablet, and home laptop (MacBook Air).
Comparisons between Android and iOS still show more iOS apps are polished but apps I must have are at least available in Android. I'm waiting to see what the Nexus 5 looks like before deciding whether or not to jump ship. The iPhone 5S is suitable but not especially attractive to me, while my iPhone 4 is starting to show its age. All reports say the latest Windows phone OS is a good one as well and if I consider switch way from iOS I'd want to consider the Nokia phones as well. My day job still revolves around Windows OS. |

Maybe this post starts a flamewar, but I don't care. That was a danger in this thread anyway. If it de-rails, a mod can close it or move it to the "Religion" forum
![]() I prefer Android because I dislike Apple as a company and its cult(ure). It's as simple as that. |

Android - it was cheaper. My goal was to get an inexpensive, quality, unlocked phone. The Nexus 4 was the only phone that met those guidelines, so I got it.

I don't use a smart phone (cheap mobile without frills works for me), but for tablets I originally preferred iOS for the higher quality of apps and the relative longevity of the hardware. Now that Android has caught up, and at least the Nexus models get support for more than a couple months, I am more comfortable outside of the walled garden. I prefer the relative freedom and greater independence, as well as the lower prices and wider selection of devices.
I would actually like to go back to Linux too, but that is more involved. ![]() |

Android.
I have a tendency to do weird things with my devices. One of the first things I did to my Android based ereader was root it, to run more powerful reading software. One of the first things I did to my Android based phone and tablet was root it, to remove unwanted software. I prefer sideloading my software, since that involves popping in a prepared memory card and running the installer from a file manager. I have grabbed the source code for some software to make simple modifications. I have created simple software of my own. Sometimes I drop to a shell to do geeky stuff too. I suppose I could do the same stuff with iOS, and I certainly have a Mac to facilitate doing it, but the culture surrounding iOS is completely different. Doing a lot of the things that I mentioned is normal in the Android world. It's normal because most of the vendors support it. Android is, for the most part, open. A portion of the user base takes advantage of that because they aren't fighting the vendor for control of their device. |

iPhone, then Windows Phone, then Android.
I like laying in the grass, mingling with plants, and looking at them, but ask me to help you shop for them, dig up the dirt, plant them, and water them, and I'm out of there. |

Hate them all. Hate cell phones. Hate texting and surfing on a tiny screen. Hate swiping and all of that.
My cell phone is my device of last resort. I am required to carry one and enjoy having access to my email on the road, but I really look forward to just talking on a phone again when I retire. |

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I love it.I also have the original Note and will probably upgrade to the Note 3 when it is released. I need a second phone to ring my main phone when I lose it. I don't have a landline so an extra phone sometimes comes in handy. They're with different telcos.

My tastes change with the wind. I am not tied to either system. I have an iPhone and an Android tablet, so I am a free agent as far as apps or eco-system goes. Each has its good or bad points. I think this topic has been talked about a lot on MR over and over and over again.
