I pretty much do the same thing except I usually just read the preview online at Amazon.

Speaking of which, there are two versions of one of the books on Kobo (Jo Nesbo - The Bat). One translated by Don Bartlett who has done the other Hole books. The other one is slightly cheaper (and is eligible for the discount) but it's been translated by a different person, who is also listed as the publisher. Is that someone doing it unofficially?
I actually spotted two of the suspicious looking ebooks. One of them was The Bat and the other was Neuromancer. Both showed Tom David as author and publisher and the ISBN numbers start with 123. I alerted Kobo to this via Twitter and the books have since been removed. My guess is that these are pirated copies being sold somehow.

I see WHSmith still seem to sell them.

You got me worried, I just bought The Bat on Wednesday using the coupon. I have to check that closely. So if the translator is Don Bartlett I should be fine, right?
I selected the one with the same cover design as the ones I bought earlier this year, so that should be ok.

Edit: I checked, Don Bartlett is the translator. *relief*

I've already used this coupon a couple times, finally picked up a copy of The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien, and Inferno by Dan Brown. Not to mention a couple Delphic classics as well.

I think you should be fine if the ebook listing doesn't have TOM DAVID listed as author or publisher like this one.

I'm not sure what exactly is going on with them. To me it seems very fishy.

Got this as well.

I also got The Master of Go, by Kawabata. As a (casual) Go player, I always wanted to read that book. All on a US account... publishers (and therefore, stores) could sell so much more if they would drop the fracking geo-restrictions.

I've been very restrained with this promo code, I made a priority list of six books that I just had to buy, and I've only bought eight of them so far :-)

I read somewhere else that you're also a chess player. I'm hoping to improve my game. Any recommendations on books on the subject I could use this voucher for? I'm pretty much a beginner- I know basic, basic strategy and tactics, but not much more.

There's something VERY wrong with that statement, but I can't put my finger on it...

I actually have been restrained with it... I had purchased Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake using a 35% off coupon from the last contest, so I used the 50% coupon to pick up the remaining three books in the series Gormenghast, Titus Alone, and Titus Awakes now that I am able to use coupon codes on them. I'm still working on reading the first one, but I have them all now. I also picked up Doctor Who: The Beast of Babylon when it was released a couple of days ago. I'm holding off until the 29th and 30th when I get paid and then I'll see what kind of damage I can do...

If you had asked me this question 15 years ago, I could have helped you with it, but nowadays, I'm only a casual chess player.

If you can find it in your language, or English, anything written by Max Euwe is good, but a lot of his stuff is now out of print (edit: apart from Dutch). He mainly wrote for beginners up to higher intermediate/low advanced level.

Someone who is both hailed and derided as a chess writer/teacher is Jeremy Silman. I have two books of his, and they were fine enough, if you like the "I always try to be funny" writing style.

One of the most used methods to learn chess is the Steps Method, by Bruna and Van Wijgerden, but it does start at the very beginnig. At step 6, the last one, it gets pretty advanced. If you can easily solve the problems in that step, you're a strong club player.

Ow, and this coupon is evil. I bought for at least a year's worth of fantasy reading...

I see more use for the coupon...
