I'm glad to say that I seem to have skipped stages 14-18.

I think I skipped those too, although I will admit to denouncing the genre called 'lit-fic' as rather pretentious most of the time.... but then, I know I'm just a simple-minded programmer.

Granted, I think that the big problem with lit-fic are the proponents. Some of the books are quite good, but there's something wrong when authors and readers start looking down at other authors and readers based upon sterotypes of books that they never read. (Ahem ... Atwood criticising science fiction when she was writing books that fit nicely into the genre.)

I think I skipped over most from 4 to 20. I've always read pretty much what I wanted without much concern about what others thought.

Haha. I loved all the little allusions to books in the comics. I'm firmly in camp 20 now.

On another note, my three year old is firmly at stage five right now.

I've gone through most of those stages (I was never a book group member though). I've gotten to a point where I enjoy whatever I'm in the mood for at the moment. Sometimes that means genre romance novels or chick lit. At the moment it means something more challenging (a.k.a. literary fiction). Then there are times when I don't want to read fiction at all but want to read nonfiction instead. I just go with the flow now.

LOL I seem to have stopped at stage 8.

That is, I've passed stage 8, but haven't moved on to any of the stages that follow.

Thanks for posting this! I went through all of the stages, except 13 (not understanding) and book groups (I think reading is a very solitary activity, and I want to keep it that way.)

Thankfully, I am now at 20, living with someone still at 16. Oh well, at least I am a cheap date, I tell him.
