I wish I waited another day. The servers are impossibly slow right now.

That's true... I forgot. I don't know if there is a way to postpone indefinitely, though.

Funny thing is I've never seen any of my iOS devices automatically download an iOS update. They may have and I just didn't notice, but I've always had to go into Settings --> General --> Software Update to force an installation. But then I generally update as soon as they are available. |

Me either, except maybe a point update and long after the release day. I don't think it should for such a drastic (x.0) update. No wonder the servers are slammed. The App Store is still screwy. I think that happened last time, too.

My iPad has been plugged into the wall charger for a couple of hours now and hasn't started downloading the update. I had been considering waiting until we're in our city home with the nice fast internet, rather than here in the country with a satellite connection. 624MB...I do remember, though, having similar intentions for the last OS update and it went ahead and downloaded it without my telling it to anyway. I had been griping about our slow internet speed, and here it was my iPad doing this big download in the background.
All my apps have been updating for the past couple of days or so now, preparing for this OS, apparently. I updated iTunes and iCloud on the Windows 7 netbook today and used it to back up the iPad. iTunes says my iPad software is up to date (it's still at 6.x), but the iPad says it's ready to download and install 7. I did not manually direct iTunes to check for updates for the iPad. As curious as I am about 7, I'm trying to hold off downloading it for now, seeing how it goes for other people, plus expecting some congestion on Apple's servers. Can I wait another few weeks until I have a better internet speed...I don't know. ![]() |

Hi All,
I just heard that iOS7 will download app upgrades automatically without asking you. Is this correct? Is there a way to disable it? And thanks for the info on auto download of the OS. Next time I plug my iDevices to charge them, I will turn off Wifi first. That is, until I'm ready to upgrade but I'll wait at least a week before I do that. |

Several million people are trying to download the updates at the same time, and people expect the downloads to be instant? Wow, talk about loosing touch with reality...
Personally, don't like the flat icons, and the new dock - Otherwise, very happy with iOS7. |

Me either. I do like the new functionality. But I hate that throughout the UI buttons have largely been replaced with very light colored text. It is much easier to see a button than light text. In some places the UI looks more like a 1980s DOS screen than a 21st century smartphone screen. IMHO, a UI should always put usability before artsy-fartsy looks.

What I like:
* Flashlight and calculator available from the lock screen * Camera and music controls more easily accessed from the lock screen I'm sure there must be features that I haven't read about or encountered yet because this was supposed to be such a major update. As expected with such a limited usage (less than 15 minutes) my don't like list is much longer. What I don't like: * I really miss swipe to delete * The grouped apps (forget what they're called - folders?) now only show 9 per screen, and have a second screen where required. I had organized mine to show a screenful and now have to reorganize to not have to swipe for a second screen * The text on the icons was illegible on my light-coloured background. I changed my background to all black for now. * Text is generally lighter-weight and less readable (e.g. in the mail app). If anyone over 40 tested this product, wasn't their opinion listened to? * Zooming of the apps whenever you return to the home screen * The grey background on the folders Edited to add: (thanks holymadness) some things I miss are really there: swipe right to left to delete You can use settings > general > accessibility to set the text to bold and therefore readable Last edited by dmacmart; 09-19-2013 at 05:56 PM. Reason: Some things are not really missing |
