Thank you - I noticed this after you brought it to my attention.

How curious, eh!! And I've got both a BB phone and Playbook

I've had it happen to me twice. One was on me for not noticing it was a PDF (before the new-look site), and the other I wound up getting a refund on. I didn't mention 'em here (until now) because I was able to get Kobo to resolve the latter problem.

I had one yesterday, wasn't going to bother to mention it, as Kobo did give me a store credit; I was made to feel that it was my inattention that led to the problem, though, as the following cut and paste from the live chat shows:

When you scroll down to the bottom of the book's page it should instruct you if it can be used on the desktop or Adobe Digital Editions.

That's a curious statement by the Kobo rep, because the ebook I purchased shows

Read This On

DESKTOP
eREADERS
ANDROID
IOS
TABLETS

and it's only available format is kepub.

All a bit too confusing for me

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I found it particularly interesting because I was told the book I wanted was an interactive book, which usually means lots of drawings or children's content according to the rep. Rumpole and the Penge Bungalow Murders by John Mortimer, published by Penguin.

The customer service rep I spoke to yesterday also insisted I should be able to tell whether or not the book was available as an Adobe Epub file too. It was a very frustrating back and forth between us. The rep finally told me she would email instructions on how to tell which formats were available but I never received that.

I took advantage of being able to use that multi-use 50% coupon on Simon & Schuster books to get some Star Trek SCE omnibuses (omnibi ?) I did have to take a 'vacation' to England for the two that were $20 & $23 for some reason I'm holding off on 3 priced in the $11-$14+ range in hopes of getting a few nice 60-75% coupons next contest (a gal can dream can't she? ) I do feel sorta guilty taking that 'vacation' though.

Sounds like nobody bothered to tell that rep about the new site design.

I just did a quick search, finding most of the 13 SCE omnibi, and it really is a frustrating hunt. A straight series search often mixes solo novellas in with omnibi, and I even saw one omnibus listed twice...with different prices! (Just in case you're still hunting, this link should be useful.)

Those prices really are insane, though. It seems that later volumes never made it to MMPB, but I think the latest of those dates from at least five years ago. (EDIT: Nope, the last one was 2010...so only three years ago - and I don't see it on Kobo's list!) Time for a markdown!

Great, I thought - an O'Reilly book at 50% off - yep I bought it.

But - Kobo has recently changed it's Aus site to the 'new' look Kobo website and I didn't realise that I was buying a kepub ebook.

I didn't get a choice - and nor do you know it's format even after purchase!!!

Yep, it can only be viewed on the Kobo desktop or on a device - NO epub version offered.

Yucko

So - beware, or caveat emptor as they say in the classics!!

Cough.... Comments at Apprentice Alf's blog.

[EDIT: I see that this has already been covered.]

The only way I've been able to tell if the book is drm-free or adobe epub is by clicking on the Save Preview button and this will add the book to your library. Go to Your library and there you'll see if the ebook is epub or adobe drm epub.

I did this through my PC, so I don't know how this works on the other Kobo applications.

Thank you for that tip. I hadn't been able to figure out how to do it, and was looking forward to not buying more books from Kobo until I could see the format I was buying.
