the Mini won't see two books

I am on Calibre 1.3 using Joel's latest plugin, and I have problems with two books, a pdf and an epub. The epub especially is puzzling, since I have checked it with Sigil, too, and it looks fine. Since it is in the public domain (I've converted it to EPUB from the MOBI version on the MR public library) I am attaching it in case anyone can shed any light.

Funnily enough, I can open the books without problems with koreader.
With the standard Kobo software (I am on firwmare 2.6.1) the two books do not appear in the library view, and in the shelf view (since I send them to shelves) I see an empty cover with a "buy now" button on the right. If I connect the reader to my laptop, Calibre does see both books.

I have rebooted the device with no change in the results: the books don't show up. Any ideas on how to fix this? I would be happy to edit the .sqlite file if somebody could give me some pointers.

I took a quick look at the epub with Sigil (version 7.30) and it was not happy with the ebook. Partly since the only file that has the the DOCTYPE declaration is the first file, all the other files are missing it which causes Sigil to whimper about the  s that are scattered through the book.

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN"
  "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en">
Code:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
Also, Sigil complained about the stylesheet.css and page-style.css files since the lines in the chapter files did not include the path.

Code:
  <link href="stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
  <link href="page_styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
Code:
  <link href="../Styles/stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
  <link href="../Styles/page_styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
This is likely caused by the directory structure of the .epub file having all the files in the root directory other than the meta-inf directory which is "Not A Good Idea" while Sigil wants to convert to a standards compliant directory structure.

Though neither of these two should have kept the ebook from showing up on your reader.

I've attached the Sigil modified version. Please let me know if it is any happier on your Mini.

Regards,
David

Thanks for posting the fixed copy, David. It's a book club selection so there may be a few who will like to have it. I fixed my mine as it was freezing my AuraHD, I don't know what it would have done to the mini!
