But maybe some people are especially sensitive to the light spectrum. Sunlight early in the morning is helpful. I also have a "happy light" in my office.

The Gunnar glasses look very interesting. Need more $$ though before I can even consider ordering a pair.

Sydney is 15, a normal insolent teenager. But I didn't get married until I was 40, and it took some time after that. (I assume everyone on MobileREAD can also add) Last edited by Sydney's Mom; 09-13-2013 at 10:55 AM. |

I too experience insomnia from late reading with the Fire HD (or watching movies on it late at night), as well as having morning wake-up migraines triggered. I can only read on E-Ink screens, or on the PW after about 7 pm or so. And have to watch movies on the fire HD in the afternoons. N.B. I too am a night owl with a long history of bouts of insomnia - in my grad school days I was awake until 3 am and then slept in until 10:00 am or so -- it was the perfect sleep/wake cycle for maximum productivity and mental clarity- I think I wrote my dissertation between 9 pm and 2 am. I readjusted to "normal" sleep/wake cycles when I left grad school (to bed at 11:00 pm and up at 6:00 am) fairly successfully, but now (reaching my late 50's) I'm slipping back into my night owl mode - I'm awake & alert well past midnight, either can't fall asleep until around 3:00, or fall asleep and wake up at 3:00 wide awake. It's not pleasant at work in the mornings ..... Haven't resorted to meds yet. So I will be sticking with the PW for reading. |

It's all about the light color and how much it is shining directly into your eyes. In addition to dimming screen brightness as much as possible I use an app on my PC and a CynogenMod setting on my smartphone to lower the color temperature to 3700K (giving everything a red tinge) and that definitely helps. My nighstand lamp also uses a bulb with warmer light color. Imho blue light frequencies shining directly into your eyes are the main culprit in scree-related sleep delay/hindrance. I wish I had a Paperwhite, as my nightstand lamp is way brighter than I'd need to still be able to read on my Kindle Touch … Last edited by Dylan Tomorrow; 09-13-2013 at 05:06 PM. I do like the Sansa Clip for overnight audiobooks. It clips to my gown so I don't have to worry about it falling off the bed with all my tossing and turning. S |

People who play sound through their headphones while asleep should be careful not to increase the likelihood of their acquiring tinnitus. When it comes to headphones, hearing loss is not simply a matter of the volume at which you listen. It is also a matter of how long. If you use your headphones during the day, then try not to set your headphones to play continuously while you're asleep. You'll be risking hearing loss to play sound you're not even hearing yourself. |

That's what I use too. When it was lost I used my cell phone. It worked, but for me, the clip wins for use in bed. I still might use my cell during the day but it's easy enough to FF to where I need to be on either Clip or cell.

Even during the day, I frequently can use only one ear bud if the ambient noise level isn't too loud. I also keep the volume as low as possible. Hearing is so important, I would hate to lose it. (Don't get me started on a rant about LOUD music! LOL)
