I just may pass then, I'm trying to be super picky on my purchases right now, especially series. I've got about 100 "book 1 of series" either started or TBR with 'book 2s' coming out soon-ish and I'd like to get to those...soon... Not to mention the 'book 2's' I've already bought and want to read.
My library is approaching 5000, and with 500ish in my TBR 'now' pile, I'm feeling very overwhelmed these days. I do realize that this is a GREAT problem to have!

I feel the exact same way! I am actually attempting to organize my Kindle books. The first step is removing the Indies that I may never read to their own library. I'm on Authors that start with D.

All culling is always hard. I took it a step further and actually deleted many of my freebies/99 cent books. Which meant I had to at least read the first chapter or so to ensure I wouldn't want to read it "someday". It's time consuming.

No deleting just moving them to a new library. Out of site, out of mind I say. Paid books do not count as they are in their own library these are just Kindle Freebies which are about 4500.

Tell me about it. Last night I vowed to cull about 500 books by the end of this month. I started looking at my Calibre library, got overwhelmed, closed down the computer and went to bed. Maybe I should do like Blossom and go by Authors; that sounds more manageable.

Like everyone else I'm getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of books I own and may never read. The idea of them just sitting there is bugging the heck out of me

My plan is to bypass paid books, non-fiction books and series books at first, and I'll get back to them when I sort out the others.

Baby steps. First remove the junk ones. That is what I am doing. If the author is previous published she stays. If the book is by mainstream publisher including EC, Samhain and Wild Rose Press...etc It stays. If I recognize the indie as something I want to read it stays all others are moved to the new library and I got about 400 so far in one day removed.

Yes, when I first 'cleaned' my Calibre library I went by author and just did them in bundles, made it much easier even though it took days. I did this about a year ago and am so relieved I did it then. On purchases now I automatically add them, tag and sort them each time so I won't have to go through that again!
libraryaddict, I just can't bring myself to delete any though, I figure they take up little room on my computer, but back when I did my major Calibre overhaul I did tag each according to reading-priority.

Ah, I feel your pain, the sheer number of TBR is both a blessing and a curse. Which has led to my being so increasingly picky on my purchases each week. [Even though you probably can't tell by my Sunday confessions, there's TONS I bypass each day]

We all find our own ways to organize our libraries, and as much work as it is, it's such a great feeling when it's done. Then we have to make time to actually read them all!

I still have probably more books than I will ever read. Some of the books I deleted fell into the "why on earth did I download this" category. And there were some self-pubs where the lack of formatting and editing was just too much. But many were "Sounds vaguely interesting" category that I try to be more ruthless about nowadays. I have too many really-want-to-reads, want-to-reads, and maybe-want-to-reads to keep that many if-I-ever-run-out-of-everything-else-I-could-maybe-try-this type of books.

Even though I had the virtual space, I tried to treat my digital books the same way I did the print ones when I moved and I had to get rid of two-thirds of them. Even then I did keep about 100 or so books I'd read that I probably will never reread with the justification of "but they're already in Calibre, tagged, etc..."

As hard as it is to get rid of books (digital or print) it's also very liberating.

That's very true, liberating is a perfect word for it!

Another thing I've started doing which I seldom [never?] did before, was DNF a book. Previously, if I had paid for a book, I darn well read it even if I hated it. [just the way I was brought up I think, nothing was ever wasted].
But now, I have so many books that I'm looking forward to reading, that if I'm just not feeling some kind of connection to a book after 30-50 pages, I just mark it and move on. So far this year, of the 177 I've marked read, 21 of them were DNF's.

I plan to DELETE mine as well. If I move them elsewhere I'll still know that they're there

I wish Amazon had a simpler way to delete books from your account, because I want them gone from there as well. Two months ago I delete over 100 books from my Kobo account and it was super-easy.

Yes, it's much easier to do it with Kobo. Amazon makes it a complete pain in the butt, which has kept me putting off deleting stuff I know I don't want.

There is no issue, so please feel free to have someone start a Cozy Mystery Specific Thread.

It may be helpful to have the first post explain the Cozy Mystery and the type publication you would like. I found the parts and pieces below from
Wikipedia:
Spoiler:
Cozy mysteries, also referred to simply as "cozies," are a subgenre of crime fiction in which sex and violence are downplayed or treated humorously, and the crime and detection take place in a small, socially intimate community.

Cozies virtually never dwell on sexuality or violence, or employ any but the mildest profanity.

Avoidance of explicit sex and violence, emphasis on puzzle-solving over suspense, a small-town setting, and a focus on a hobby or occupation are all frequent elements of cozy mysteries. The precise boundaries of the sub-genre remain vague, however, with the work of authors such as Aaron Elkins and Philip R. Craig considered borderline cases.

I recently culled my kindle archive. I permanently deleted around 900-1100 books. I started buying kindle books since end of 2008 when I got my first kindle and about what was it, 2 years ago or so there were free books everywhere. I went nuts.

It took me about 3 weeks to go through it all. I had to open several tabs for the my kindle page so it wouldn't refresh each delete, then I had to go through each separate, check the book on amazon, check the book on goodreads, update goodreads shelfs if needed, or delete book from goodreads also. And then I also had to do the same in calibre. For each book. One at a time.

I started with the oldest in the kindle account page and worked my way forward and I did it by month purchased and then checked them off. Now I got it all synchronized between goodreads, calibre and my kindle account. The only thing that throws things off are the bundles.

Most of what I deleted was just really bad. Some were chapter samples, some where authors that don't even exist anymore, some by now had such horrible reviews I didn't even want to look closer and then there were the ones I must have been sleep one clicking on because there was no logical reason I would get such, um things.

I now only get freebies pretty much if they have some sort of track record. Back list titles, authors that have a backlist etc. Or some reviews from trusted online friends. I don't get the maybe's anymore.
