Epub Compatibility

Hello,

I converted a html file to epub using Calibre. I then uploaded it to lulu.com with the intention of selling it on lulu & their distribution network.

I get the following message from lulu:-

Quote:
Oops! You uploaded an invalid EPUB file. Details...
The following issues were found with your EPUB, which can effect its eligibility for certain channels:

Did not pass epubcheck-1.1 validation. (the iBookstore and Barnes & Noble)
Contains unmanifested files. (the iBookstore and Barnes & Noble)
The table of contents contains one or more links without text. (the iBookstore and Barnes & Noble)
Contains invalid publication date XML. (Barnes & Noble)
What do I need to do in my html file or in Calibre to make my epub compatible with all the requirements stated above?

Additional Info.
My html file was created from scratch by me using basic html tags such as <table>, <p>, <br>. There is no fancy stuff in my html file. It did not come from a MS Word document that was "saved as" html.

Calibre is a great converter that does its best to convert even the most imvalid source files, however, it's not intended to be an ebook editor.
I'd recommend using Sigil instead. Sigil will automatically fix some errors in ePubs when you open or save them. It also comes with its own error checking tool, FlightCrew.
Open your ePub with Sigil click the big green check mark to search for problems and fix them. Then go to epub check online to search for issues that Flightcrew might have missed. If your book passes both tests, you shouldn't have problems with the upload.
For more specific questions post either in the Sigil or ePub MR forums.

Excellent advice, thanks.
Sigil > Flightcrew > validator.idpf.org & a little bit of struggle solved my problem. Lulu has accepted my epub file, thanks to you :-)
