This "new" feature isn't exactly rocket science... It's simply about looking up a word in all dictionaries of a given language, instead of only the first one. JBPatch already provided this 9 months ago. But yeah, I'm glad that Amazon listens to at least *some* of the users' wishes.

Is the screensaver hack still working for those that upgraded? I have a feeling I did something wrong. I may have lost my jailbreak :/

Doesn't really seem worth the hassle of upgrading. Dictionaries are of limited utility to me anyway, they don't seem to be able to handle the weird substitute words that sci-fi and fantasy writers are SO keen on.
Is there anything of note aside from dictionary stuff that makes the hassle of updating worth it? |

This is a huge improvement but there is still one nagging problem with Kindle dictionary. See attachment:
See why the dictionary is unable to find the definition? That is because the dash connect the word Commisioners and five. If there is a space between the dash and the word Commisoners, there won't be a problem. But there is no space there so when I tap the word Commisoners, the word five is highlighted too and the dictionary tries to find the meaning of the combined words Commisoners-five which is of course not in its entries. That problem seems like it would be very easy for Kindle developers to fix, if only they were aware of it! After all, that's an em-dash between Commissioners and five, not a regular dash. The software should be able to tell the difference, it's a different character. I have also sometimes wanted to "adjust" a word in cases like this, or turn a plural word into singular when the dictionary didn't find it (even though it knows most plural words).

Even if a hyphen was used rather than an em or en dash, the dictionary should still attempt to look up the word(s) and give you options to choose from. How difficult would it be to look up the word up to the hyphen/dash? Not difficult at all. They could easily fix this by offering us the option to look up the word up to the hyphen/dash and any hyphenated words based on that one. But as usual, Amazon never listens to us so they probably don't know this issue exists.

For old mobi7 files better use ‌ instead to also allow line breaks at the em-dash. See http://hisdeedsaredust.com/2012/01/t...on-the-kindle/. |
