What a bummer, I got excited about the night mode! Why don't they have this? When I see screensavers/ads that are black with white type, they look nice and sharp.

Would this even work for an eInk device? The light doesn't come from the back of the device but the front. It doesn't matter if the screen is black, the light still covers the whole of it.

The Kobo has a night-mode hack and Coolreader includes one too. I wonder if it would make the front-light more usable in very dark environments. I don't think it's that big a deal to implement. I have it on a Nook ST in Coolreader, but without a front-light, it's pointless. |

Sorry 'bout that. Was just having a little fun, and I was wondering if something like this would be useful.

Yes it works on eink. When I got an Onyx Firefly, the cool reader app was set in night mode. Hated it! It was a relief to finally figure out how to turn that off.

No, I didn't know about that forum, but I will be checking it out now. I live in a bright area in the southern part of the Dallas/Fort Worth metro, so I don't see many night sky objects. However, I try to make the best out of a bad location and try to go to a state park 70 miles to my northwest when I can.

Oh I have no doubt that you can reverse the lights and blacks on an eInk reader but what is the point? It's done on tablets because it reduces the amount of light coming out of the tablets. But in an eInk reader the light doesn't come from the back. I don't see how having a black background reduces the amount of light that a front light would produce. It seems like it would be a fake night mode.

I seem to remember a hack for the Sony PRS 500 that reversed back and white. It looked horrible. |

I actually did that a few years ago. I cannot remember for which reader, but I think it was a pre-Pearl screen. Back then blacks were not very dark and whites were very grey. I did not like the way it looked, but that was with a non-lighted screen and I viewed it during the day in a well lit room. I think it might be different to some degree on a lighted screen in a dark room.

You don't get it, do you? Trolling is a art.
But seriously, I'm so getting this, as soon as the first real reviews show up (not the "paid" ones). This will be my first e-reader. I just can't wait. Last edited by DSpider; 09-07-2013 at 01:41 PM. |
