And yesterday, a tap on the right side of the screeen started moving the pages backwards, and then after five pages or so it spontaneously started moving forward again. This has happened maybe half a dozen times.

I haven't had any accidents with my Aura — no drops, no squashes in a crammed satchel — so if it's a hardware problem it would be surprising. I made sure all the IR ports round the inside of the bezel had no dust or hairs in them ... I have no idea what else to think, except that it might be a f/w issue.
Have you done a factory reset (painful as that can be)? If it's not a hardware issue, it sure sounds like your firmware has gotten corrupted somewhere especially since it's getting worse.

Yeah, thanks for the thought, robko. I did try a factory reset (much less painful these days, since Kobo remembers and restores my shelves — though I'm a bit unhappy about Kobo recording everything that's on my device, whether it was bought from Kobo or not — and I don't keep more than a few immediate titles on the device, so there's not a lot to restore), but it doesn't seem to have changed things.

That's why I was keen to hear how common this might be. Apologies that it's already been discussed — though i wasn't reading the site when it was, and I didn't have an Aura until recently anyway.

I tried to send an e.mail to Customer Care (since I live outside North America), but the link on the Kobo site doesn't work.

Both my Aura and my Mini have gone through flashing stages. Right now it is not too bad, the occasional flash. At one point it seemed to take up to six steps to refresh a page (not on every page) I have no idea what firmware was on them at the time, or if resetting helped, but it did get better again.

I have had the going backwards thing happen on my Aura 3 times now. Firmware 2.6.1. Once I had to power off for it to stop, twice I had to reset it. I went back 30 ADE pages before getting desperate and resetting. Screen was clean. Worked fine after resetting so I doubt it could be anything other than the firmware getting bent out of shape.

I had a the corrupted looking display on my first Aura, and, as you say, I got the multiple page turns every three pages for something like 25 pages or more on one particular instance, ugh! The reader was brand new, no drops, no debris in the IR field.

I returned mine. Because the glo light also flickered, I felt it was possibly buggy hardware. Two factory resets improved nothing. Likewise for a change in firmware on the last factory reset. I didn't trust that the reader would ever behave reasonably normally.

I think you should consider a warranty exchange, annoying as that process is. All three Aura HDs I have owned have had the multiple page turn issue, but only the first one had that corrupted display flash. Only the first one had a lot of frequency to the multiple page turns.

Logged an enquiry with Customer Service. They want me to send my Aura back for repairs — expected turn-around time, six weeks. Bloody hell!

Hmm. Just browsing my on-board Library for the first time since the device upgraded itself to 2.8.1.

Where has the page navigation slider gone? Is it just me, or can you only move through the Library by swipes now?

Seems a really poor decision. Took me four goes just to move to the next page, because the Aura kept interpreting my swipe as a tap and opening books I didn't want just then. Annoying!

In the library view, it seems you can only swipe safely at the very bottom of the screen; and yes, that sucks.

You can go directly to a page. Tap the page number in the top right corner and an entry field will be displayed. With the new interface, most text that is italics does something when you press it.

Thanks David. I did realise that one, but I don't think it's a substitute for scrolling — at least, they serve different purposes. How do you know which page a title is going to be on?

Seems pointless for them to remove a useful function if they're not going to offer something that directly replaces it.

I completely agree with that. I can't think of a good reason to remove the slider. Swipe to turn a page is a good idea and being able to enter a page number is a good idea as well. But, the slider is a good way to get to a rough spot quickly and is a good visual indicator of position.

Yes, 'tis, but the layout of the page under 2.8.1 seems to make it difficult to perform a swipe that isn't misinterpreted. Attempts to move forward through the Library is easily and frustratingly diverted to opening a book unintentionally — for me, that counts as diminished functionality.

Plus, I would like to page through my library without what used to be one step now becoming three for each new page.

Swiping up/down also works when paging through the library lists. I've found this to be slightly less prone to selecting a book by accident for me. You still need a light touch though.

So, I don't remember reading this on MR yet, but with 2.8.1, I now get a pop-up warning at 10% which I have to click okay to. So good news, more warning about the battery almost run out, you don't have to rely on your eyes noticing the message at the top of the screen.

I remember a lot of people complaining about the lack of warning, so I'm surprised I didn't see it mentioned, but maybe I just missed it. I haven't been letting my glo run completely down lately, so this was the first I've seen of it, even though I got this firmware very early.

Anyway, nice improvement

That sounds great ; battery indicator on my Touch is very erratic. Sometime it stays on the same percentage for some days (while reading) then all a sudden it says the battery is almost empty !!

How do I find out if my touch can handle the 2.8.1 firmware ? I read about N905A, B and C but my serial is N905J2B403920 ...
It's running on 2.6.1 (autoupgrade late June)

dont know, but i have a b-model (KG31B...) and recently flashed the mark4-firmware cause i was curious how the device will handle it. pretty good, only thing that seems to have problems is the microsd-card slot, which i dont use anyway.

can you open the device up? if there's a micro-sd card in it, its pretty sure a mark4-model, if theres a soldered memory-chip its an a- or b-model
