Apologies. One of the limitations of electronic communications is misunderstanding.

This Italian website has some extreme close ups of the new PW display vs older Pearl e-ink display. It's hard to tell exactly but I gotta say even though the ppi is the same, the font looks better and seems to pop a bit more.
http://www.eeevolution.it/e-ink-carta-specifiche/ Ignore the totally clueless interviewer, "so you can read with this in the dark?"(he asks this with the light fully up!) and check out 1:15 of the video linked below. The screen looks to be much lighter with no front light up than the darker coffee cream color of PW1. Should be better contrast. http://www.tbreak.ae/features/look-a...perwhite-video Last edited by stutzj; 09-06-2013 at 01:12 PM. |

That page flip feature looks extremely useful. I can see buying the PW just for that feature alone.
I wonder if it will work for side loaded books? |

no i did watch the video preview he linked too. i didnt see any indication. but the written review may be what he was actually refering to. but i dont have to know if endgadget prefers it or not. all my responses so far are based on docs initial post, asking why endgadget would prefer the aura over the kindle even though the.kindle has the new screen. i offered a reason why that may be. you are interpreting my comments in the wrong way i think.

Amateur photographer, mostly astrophotography. I think to do the kind of comparison that would be useful, he should have set up a tripod and cradle to keep the ereader positions and camera positions the same for each. Then the lighting would need to be kept consistent. And the focus would need to be the same, preferably with a tiny aperture to keep a larger area in focus. Then he should have tried to display the same text (font, size, etc.) on each reader. In that way we could compare apples to apples rather than apples to every fruit imaginable. Instead he took photos from different angles and focus, of different text, and presented the photos in different sizes. All those differences make it impossible to draw a true conclusion.
