I don't see the need to try to defend your gadget. I like the kindle, all my ebooks are from Amazon, I am happy they are improving the device. You got your Kobo glow and are happy as well. Don't you love that there are options available? If you don't want to read about people getting psyched about the kindle, then maybe you are on the wrong forum.

I can see the bright bit, certainly in the first picture. I'd ring them, you can always say its getting worse, but within warrenty I'd definitely try a replacement.

I know I was nervous of asking for a replacement in case the replacement is worse, but at the end of the day it can't hurt to try.

Very nice contrast with light low, and very uniformed light when light high...

I'm not sure why all these reviews show it with the light on the highest setting. For most people that is way too bright to read and gives a false impression of the screen. If I put a bright spot light on my Touch it will look bright and white too, but I would have a headache reading with that much light. I think it is better to keep the light down to a comfortable reading level and then do a review.

It is always difficult to tell for sure with photos as cameras catch light differently than our eyes, but I see uneven shadows (blobs) on various portions of the screen. Looks like your screen has some pink tinting as well. However, I've seen many screens that were much worse. Yours seems to be only slightly affected. It might not bother you much. If it does get a replacement.

I can't tell anything wrong but perhaps that's because it be easier to detect if we could see a regular page that has text all the way down instead of a end of the chapter page where it all looks the same.

Thanks for looking....I'll just live with it. I hate to replace and have to go through all the jailbreaking and hacking again. Yes sometimes I do see pink, especially outside in the late afternoon. But I've got it where I want it, software wise.

I get that. But my comment was based on the fact that some wonder why a reviewer may think the aura is better than kindle even though kindle has the latest screen. Of course as i believe it is because the screen res is not as important as other functions of the reader.

The Kindle and Aura screens have the same resolution. It's the overall contrast that's improved with the newest screen.

well whatever the difference, apparently its not important enough for endgadget to prefer the kindle over the aura.(at least according to doctorow who felt the reviewer prefered the aura)
