I only needed the slot once after I bought a new Reader, to put the card into it. After that you can manage everything through Calibre. Calibre will detect your main Reader and the Micro SD card when you connect the Reader via USB. There's no need to touch the Micro SD card ever once you've inserted it. The card just needs a save place in the device.
If you use different Micro SD cards with one Reader that might cause problems now. Last edited by alvina; 09-03-2013 at 02:20 PM. |

Jupps, that it. Even the normale file browser (explorer) on your system shows your internal storage and your SD-card when you connect the reader via USB.

On the 650 I was using the SD card to avoid to plug the device to the computer. It was never to extend the memory. So for this, I would need the card to be of easy access. But your mileage...

Ahhhh! You would plug the card into a reader and that into the computer. I do the same with my tablet. It is a lot easier.

Me, I use the file manager on my Hacked T1 to move files from my home server to the SD card so I haven't removed it in over a year. |

First, thanks to Librista for being patient and giving us so much information!
I am wondering if the different back might allow easy battery changes? I do think until we find out more about the reader it is premature to write it off. Also, I have seen no evidence that Sony is constantly examining your library, unlike Kindle and I think Nook. Any speculation about pricing is premature and should be cleared up in a day or two. Cheers |

As it is I can't browse through the book library without the reader crashing, This is my second T1 as the first just stopped responding at all and that one also crashed in the same ways the only way I can find a book to read is looking at Calibre on my PC making my choice there and searching the title on the T1. I think in honesty the sony Android readers are just too under specced to cope, I've never seen an Apple device or an Android device that struggled with any size of library where the Sony's obviously do, whether this is down to lack of physical ram or the cpu or both it just seems to me they don't have the hardware needed to be running Android underneath. I'm actually a fan of Android but I think Sony's pre Android readers where much more stable like I said I don't blame Android I blame the low specs of the device and Sonys firmware. |

I cannot confirm this. I have 1225 Ebooks on my T1. Calibre told me that there is no more space so i deleted a view ebook. Now i have just 100 MB free space. And there are no problem browsing in the library, no crahesI will try it with an extra sd-card and tell you here how it works with nearly 3000 Ebooks...
What firmware version does you sony have? Maybe you have to do an update. PS: I also had the same amount of ebooks on my T2, also without crashing, or slow down... |

Including a integrated cover also limits the devices market. Covers can be very cheap and are quite personal so forcing a buyer to pay for a cover they may not want is counter productive. Sony seem to be on a different wavelength to what people want and long term their market will shrink even further. For those of us who started with Sony ereaders it's all quite sad. |

The video is private again. Do some have any information about the T3S without cover?

By 'different direction' you mean it has no integrated light, because it's the only difference that really matters, as far as i'm concerned. In my opinion, the lighting thing is more of a marketing move, not something that i really need for reading, it washes out the screen's sparpness and I have a bedlight for reading. You do have a point on the cover (though personally I just need some means of encasing the device when traveling and I don't feel the need to personalize the cover). As for 'more expensive', the price is the same as the new Kindle's. |

As for price, in the UK the new Paperwhite is £109, the Sony T3 is £99. That's a difference of £11. Yes I need a case with the Paperwhite but I can get one cheaply for around £10 (I actually have a spare case but that's irrelevant) So for £21 more I get an integrated front light. If I want the lighted case with the Sony I expect it will cost me far more than £21. I have seen quotes of up to €50. Which is roughly £42, if thats correct its £141 for the T3 and Lighted Cover. To compete with Amazon they need to produce a ereader with a light (integrated or in the cover) for the same price as the Kindle and the new Kobo Aura, which is £120 + case. And let's not read anything into the fact that neither Kobo or Amazon have seen it necessary to release a non lighted ereader this year. Th cheapest non lighted Kindle is £69 (so with a £10 case that's £79) and I can get a Kobo Touch (their last non lighted ereader) for only £39.99
It does seem that non lighted ereaders are not that cost effective to produce anymore. Only time will tell if the market for them dries up. The Sony T3 does look a lovely device, I like it in red, but without a integrated light it's no use to me. |
