Actually I am not expecting anything at all, I just made a statement questioning if it was limited to Amazon purchases. This is a moot feature for me because I have already purchased 90% of my previous physical books in ebook format.

This is specifically an Amazon program, so it's safe to suppose that it will only apply to books purchased at Amazon.

Different dates in different countries. It's available in the UK, Germany, and France on 9th October.

Here's a little more information on the new screen tech. It claims a 50% increase in screen contrast as opposed to the 25% mentioned in one of the articles.

I'm not unhappy with the refresh rate. I have noticed that clearing the lookup window (Game of Thrones uses a lot of archaic words I'm not familiar with until I look them up once each - I've learned a lot of English words that have fallen out of use!) leaves darker text behind where it was, but the normal text darkness when looking at a page I've just turned to doesn't seem too light.

I'll be showing my Paperwhite to a friend this coming weekend, and she's said that if she likes it as much as she thinks she will, she'll buy one! So I may yet get to compare new and old directly. She doesn't currently own an ereader, and I think this will be a great first one for anyone, especially people like the two of us who like reading in the dark in bed.

Of course, I could always give her my old Kindle Touch if she doesn't want to spend $120 right now. Hm.

This would be entirely in accordance with what Amazon have done previously. Shortly after the release of the original PW, the Touch got a firmware update which gave it the PW's new UI.

Awww, I was hoping you would get one and let us know about the light! You are one of the few I would trust on such reviews as, like me, you went through plenty of bad PW1 units. I guess we are both going to wait on non-fanboy/girl reviews that are more objective than most reviews.
