The image displayed in Opera without problems. The epub was the only problem.

Oh. I was going from: "## Each site has a section that overrides [defaults] *and* the format."
at the beginning of the sites section, and
"## extra_titlepage_entries (and extra_logpage_entries) *add* to
## titlepage_entries (and logpage_entries) so you can add site
## specific entries to titlepage/logpage without having to copy the
## entire titlepage_entries line. (But if you want them higher than
## the end, you will need to copy titlepage_entries.)"
in the [dramione.org] section, both from the default personal.ini, as well as the implied override order going from top to bottom in the file (defaults at the top, override at the bottom). Did you change your mind about order of precedence at some point, or is the order of precedence different depending on the data type? Perhaps when you have more time you could make the precedence order clearer in the documentation?

The other part of what was causing confusion was that the template personal.ini has a titlepage_entries line in [defaults] and not [epub], and a logpage_entries line in [epub] and not [defaults], so when the titlepage_entries line in [sites] worked and logpage_entries didn't, my first thought, seemingly supported by the documentation, was that it was supposed to work.

Anyway, I've moved [epub] logpage_entries to [defaults]. Thanks!

Fic with multiple series, also AO3 Archive Warnings

Calibre defines one standard series column. You can add custom series columns, the issue is populating them. Even if FFDL had a feature for an extra series, can one story have three series? Four?

And even if the 'second' series for a story is put in a custom series column, if the next story in the same two series list them in the opposite order, it's still not useful. You could end up with:
Code:
Series Custom Series
A[1] A[2]
B[2] B[1]
You couldn't sort correctly on either column.

That said, I am willing to add some AO3 specific extra_valid_entries for additional series. But you'd have to use custom_columns_settings to get them into your secondary custom series column(s). (Another alternative would be to include them in tags or tags-like custom column.)

Does that sound useful to anyone?
I just ran into this issue again (sorry I didn't comment the first time), and yes, I would find it useful to at least have the series information collected in a tag like custom column so that the information is somewhere on my computer for easier adding to custom columns. And yes, you could end up with the series in the wrong column if you did it by order, but at least you'd know the other series name and number in it even if you couldn't initially sort by it.

You know, what would work would be if you had virtual copies of the fic, one for each series it is a part of – so if you sorted by the standard series column, you'd have it show up in the right place in each series list. That's beyond the scope of FFDL I think, (Do you think that it might be something someone would be interested in putting in Calibre? I've looked through the Manage Series Plugin thread and no-one seems to have suggested the idea, but Manage Series seems to assume the custom column approach to works with multiple series. Actually, never mind, I found a thread it's in [not the most helpfully titled https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=127774 Idea for Consideration in Future Builds of Calibre]. It seems to affect too many other things to be simple.), but if I could set FFDL to make more than one copy of it, differing only in which series it has, that could work. Of course I'd need to change metadata for each separately, but I can handle that.

Speaking of extra_valid_entries. AO3's Archive Warnings tags (Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, No Archive Warnings Apply, Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con, Underage) don't seem to come in under the standard "warnings" when I have it set up to appear on the title page. Are they supposed to? If not, would you mind adding an AO3 specific extra_valid_entry for it? No rush, I know you're tight for time.

I know that this is late, but I'm behind. If you like the first page formatting and you want to get the notes in the same fic, you may be able to approximate it with the custom css function. See EPUB Title Page at http://code.google.com/p/fanficdownl...erCustomOutput

It apparently supports tables and putting individual metadata entry values where you want them, so it looks doable. I'm not volunteering to actually do it because my CSS skills are practically non-existent and I have more urgent things I want to teach myself, but if someone else does it and posts it here, I would love to use it.

that makes 2 of us

You know, though, the more I read the more I don't mind the stripped first page FFDL gets, in the end
But, yeah, I'd like to know how to do that too

AO3 first page

Actually, allow me to amend my earlier statement. If when you say you like the formatting you mean the look, then you can approximate that with the custom CSS function. If you also mean the function, I don't think that you can do that, since each listing of each piece of data is a live link to the corresponding page on AO3, and the title page CSS only has access to the downloaded metadata entry values. FFDL does, or could, get that information presumably, but it would require new code probably.

I'd still use it if someone put together code for the formatting, but it wouldn't be the same.

To devs: A live link title page would be really neat, but is in no way urgent, especially since the current first page has a link for the fic and the author already, which takes one to an equivalent set of links.

P.S.: You replied pretty quickly glos. Is there some means to get a notification when someone quotes one of one's posts (because if so I want to use it) or was it just luck that it was the first post since the last time you visited the thread?

It was luck and I'm at home bored today, reading
I don't think there's that kind of notifications for quotes (yet), I remember reading of a user asking about it, though.
No no I meant just the look

Example URL? Warnings from AO3 are working for me.

Links for all the categories, genres, etc? It's rather unlikely I'll ever add them. If somebody else wanted to, however, I'd be open to that.

Hi,

For the last two weeks I've noticed that my metadata isn't updating properly on all the stories I'm updating in Calibre or adding to Calibre for the first time.

I'm not sure what to do to have the metadata update like it used to? This error message happens on a wide assortment of stories.

Here is an error message I received for an Anthology I tried to download tonight using the FFDL plugin.

Spoiler:

calibre, version 1.1.0
ERROR: Error Updating Metadata: <p>An error has occurred while FFDL was updating calibre's metadata for <a href='http://archiveofourown.org/series/40210'>Falconry Anthology</a>.</p>The ebook has been updated, but the metadata has not.

Since I see that you're keeping your library under dropbox (which is going to be opening files automatically) and calibre starting with 1.0 has been doing a 'windows_check_if_files_in_use' and failing if another process has any of the book's files open, I'm going to blame dropbox vs calibre conflict. (FFDL only updates the epub through the calibre interfaces.)

The idea is to create a custom column that returns the shelf names you want by looking at values in other columns. If there is already a value in the metadata that can be used, this is fairly easy to do.
I actually used this page to set up my custom column so I could create the Kobo shelf.
With three Kobos in the house now I've actually bookmarked that page I've referred to it so many times .
Thanx for the great reference.

Found another tricksy author name. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/40187/ has an author named "Rainbow|Dash". When FFDL tried downloading it I hit the same "metadata wasn't updated" error window I got earlier for the "&" names, and it turned the author's name into "Rainbow,Dash" instead. The author's name is correctly linked back to the author page, though.
