Sometimes being patient does pay off!

So I've had this on my wishlist every since I bought Box set 1. It was $4.99 and it's currently on sale for $0.99 cents. Used a 45% off coupon thanks to apesmom and got it for $0.54!

Red Stone Security Series Box Set - Volume 2 by Katie Reus

It's also on sale @ Amazon

That's pretty much what I do. I read the negative reviews, then I get a sample and read that before I buy. Reading a sample has caused me to rule out lots of books that have been majorly squee-ed over. Finally, I look for any mention of a cliffhanger or abrupt ending. If the sample didn't grab me, or the reviews mentioned bad grammar or continuity errors, or if there's a cliff-hanger, that's it for the book, it's outta the car.

There are just too many books available, so I think we've all had to come up with our own ways to wade through them.

FREE @ Amazon (sorry for the late posting-I just saw it):

The Maidenhead (historical romance) - Parris Afton Bonds
-Author's site/blog says it's only free today (Sat. 8/31) - so 5-6 hrs left!
-Author has published with Fawcett, Leisure, Ballantine, Silhouette, etc.
-Is this newly written and not a backlist title?

That's just it, it didn't end on a cliffhanger like other books out there. It ended right after the beginning. It was like half a novella. It was like reading 5 chapters 120 pages for $3 just isn't worth it. I gave it 2 Stars. I thought the story was okay but some of her words just turned me off. It needed some serious rework as the some if it just didn't flow and there was hardly any believable chemistry between the couple. I was going to give it 3 stars then the ending happen and that bump it down to two stars for me.
So it's not the cliffhanger that bothers you so much as the size of the book? [or lack thereof ] !

I've done that too, bought a book and not paid attention to page counts and been startled by an abrupt ending, it all comes down to 'buyer beware' sometimes which sucks but very true with most things nowadays. I'm trying to be more fussy with my buys too.

BTW, you never told me how you liked 'Wethering the Storm'?
And, I finally read your recommended 'Escaping Reality' by Lisa Renee Jones and while it was good, it has a major, major cliffhanger and really very little romance, more suspense I thought, but still well done. Hope the 2nd book is a good price too, IIRC we got those when they were $.99 right?

OH, ETA a great deal, for anyone who's following the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Origin is $.97 at Diesel.

I know what you mean! I also got it because of her backlist and Blossom had posted a backlist freebie of hers that she was really happy to find. Unfortunately most of her other ebook covers aren't any better than this one!

Has anyone else calculated your proposed payments for the ebook price fixing settlement? Based on the minimum payment of $0.73 per book I can expect at least $46.00 at Amazon and another $20.00 between Kobo and B&N! WOW! Fun shopping days ahead!

I bought a total of 92 Agency books @ an average of $2.15/book so assuming there are no exceptions made for publisher sales priced books (and I've seen nothing to indicate there will be) I'll be getting 33% of the purchase price back. Not bad.

Apple still hasn't settled with the states so there could still be more money added to the pot later.

I bought 72 books in the designated time period (plus a bunch after but cest la vie). I thought it was 30¢ or $1.32 per book When did they up the amount to 33% (not that I'm complaining)

Amazon just sent out emails with the new estimates yesterday. Minimum is $0.73 per with estimated $3.03 per for any NYT bestsellers.

Here's one of many recent articles, also this thread.

Cool. I think when I calculated there were 17 of the books I purchased that were NYT at the time I purchased them. There were others that were NYT when first published, but I would think considered backlist when they were released digitally.

My purchases were spread out bwteen Sony, Kobo, Borders (which I asked at the time and confirmed will be part of the settlement), All Romance eBooks, and directly from Penguin.

It should be interesting to see how they define NYT best sellers. The Attorney's General website explicitly states "These include titles that were New York Times bestsellers at any time, irrespective of when you purchased the E-book." So does that include the backlist titles that were once upon a time on the list? Or only the titles that appeared on the list during the disputed period? And which list?, there are now several NYT lists. How high on the "list" does the title need to be?

I have to brag that I'm getting nothing back on the settlement as when the agency agreement went into effect I stopped purchasing books affected by the agreement. Even now I don't buy books that cost more than a dollar or two. Most agency books will hit one of my libraries and I already own more books than I can read.
