The whole argument is rather silly since the premise is flawed. You can use SD cards with Kobo. Perhaps the statement should be adjusted to "smart people use a Sony or a Kobo"?

![]() But... I think it is very un-smart to think that people who enjoy the Kindle and the Amazon ecosystem are less smart than those who buy Sony for example. The choice between whatever ereader systems is simply a question off what weight an individual attaches to certain considerations. That is a pure personal thing. It might be an extremely smart choice for some to opt for the Kindle while it would be less so for me personally. Amazon's Kindle has many happy owners. And that is perfectly fine as long as I have the option to stay away from it. Anyhow, I see no reason to get worked up over this whatsoever. |

I do like the look of the new Kobo Aura 6 inch reader as it takes an SD Card, thats the only thing my Kindle Paperwhite is missing. A front lit reader with an SD Card option is perfect.

Just a remark:
comparing the frame of my Sony PRS-950 with the Kobo Aura HD I just realized Sony could now easily fit a highres 8 inch screen into the same PRS-950 frame. Imagine that. I am salivating at the thought of buying such a unique reader. Sony has so many great options open to them. It is sad to realize they will probable never use any of them and choose to become even more unremarkable and mediocre. |

I don't know that sideloading books to any of them is difficult, though, whether by drag and drop, calibre or wirelessly (in the case of the Kobo and Kindle). It isn't that Kindles make sideloading difficult. It's that they make buying content from Amazon hellishly easy. I do understand your point about Sony's PRS series and the relative privacy afforded the user, but that's only because Sony isn't terribly invested in e-books. Pick up a PS Vita and you'll find that our esteemed gadget empire doesn't respect your privacy as much as you might think. The original x50 line was the pinnacle of the age of the hermetic reader. The point wasn't connectivity but rather sturdy hardware, flexibility and relative privacy. Custom firmware was what set the x50 fully apart, so the indie devs on Mobile Read deserve part of the credit. No one's done that for Kobo, have they? If they ever do, the Aura line might become incredibly flexible as well. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 08-31-2013 at 08:40 AM. |

Did I say anything offensive just now? My intention was to poke harmless fun at the supposed distinction between e-reader brand loyalists -- a distinction which I find to be inapplicable and arbitrary -- but I thought I was careful not to insult anyone, including the person I quoted.
The point was that the three companies we're discussing all make good e-readers, and that each company and even each model has its strengths. The irony was that I hoped to diffuse tension, not cause it. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 08-30-2013 at 11:35 AM. |

Clearly not aimed at you specifically Prestidigitweeze (no way anything you said was offensive), just the general way the thread has descended (my posts included) and went round in wee circles! I think you make some good points about Sony... but then I'd expect that from someone like you who is equally as smart, idiotic and average all at the same time.

Somebody ought to start a thread and call it- Sony PRS-T3 leaks in various Internet stores / coming on Sep 19? This thread seems to have gotten off the beaten path. If everyone had the same preferences, we would only need one brand of ereader. But people have different tastes. It doesn't make someone smarter than the next person. It's like saying a smart person would drink my brand of beer.

This thread definitely went off the deep end...
Back on topic. Hopefully we will see the Sony Reader(s) at IFA next week. I've read the Sony announcements are scheduled for Sept. 4. |

Based on these pictures, my guess is that the light that pictures show as popping out is integrated into the reader itself. Last edited by dieterpops; 08-30-2013 at 04:02 PM. |
