Glad you got your Calibre troubles figured out. On that note (Calibre), is adding a Table of Contents hard? Is there a plugin that will do it? Just a heads up that this freebie mentioned in June's thread doesn't have a ToC (Smashwords/Kobo, but I'd assume the file is the same at all vendors?)

It depends if the headings are defined well (or even at all) in the book.

There is a Table of Contents tab in the Conversion feature in Calibre. If the chapters are defined by a heading level within the book (h1, h2, etc) it is super easy for Calibre to create a TOC. Even if they are defined by a unique script within the document (i.e. <p class="Chapter-Number">) you can get Calibre to find them.

You can even make Calibre find the word Chapter within the book and create chapter headings if they aren't defined. It's all a matter of using Regular Expressions. I know enough HTML and Regular Expressions to usually get it to work and to know I don't know nearly enough

You could try checking the box "Force use of auto generated table of contents" (the first entry in the Table of Contents tab) and do a conversion from ePub to Epub and see what Calibre finds.

Smashwords has some terrible formatting on their books. One author told me they call it the meat grinder and I can see why.

Thanks, I have noted it down for future use. I was lazy, and just used the search function on my reader (first time using it).

On second look, there is a ToC in the file that my kobo sees, but the only content/section/bookmark is something called 'midpoint' that is literally partway through the Linnea Sinclair story, and I suppose about halfway point of the book?! So bizarre.
