Yeah I figured that out, the page I was on didn't have that. I'm not sure about the whole system, I searched for a book by title and got nothing, then by author and got nothing, then when I read through the whole list it was there (and yes I spelled it right when I searched it). It's a good thing I'm not banking on my library as my only source! |

I notice that a lot of the US resident members talk about borrowing ebooks from their library. Living in the UK as I do, I'm not aware of ANY libraries over here which have cottoned on to this yet. Unless, of course, someone knows differently................. (crosses fingers and toes in anticipation........)

The problem is that the public is daft. They think PDF is a better format to read then Mobipocket and thus download library eBook in PDF more so then Mobipocket. So the libraries purchase more PDF then Mobipocket. This is why there is more PDF then Mobipocket when the eBook is available in both PDF and Mobipocket. It's not good I know. I wish there was some way to let the libraries know we want Mobipocket when possible and PDF is very much not preferred.
Are there others here from the Boston area so we can get together and try to let the Boston Public Library know we want Mobipocket instead? Another issue I've noticed is that there is WAY WAY too much romance being ordered for the libraries. How do we stop bored, tired, lonely housewives from downloading romance in PDF? It's a sad world when PDF and bad romance rule the libraries. Last edited by JSWolf; 09-26-2008 at 09:07 AM. |

According to my library, it's not up to them. It's up to the publisher which format to make it available in. If it's available in both formats, the library gets both.

It's too bad I didn't see this thread earlier. I love my sony, but I would have recommended to anyone struggling between the two to hold off until after Oct 2 - Sony is making a big Reader announcement that might hold some sway on choices right now. Whether it is a content announcement or a new reader is anyone's guess, but a week really isn't long to wait.

I've been using a Cybook Gen3 since yesterday and it's been a breeze. My previous experience with the concept of e-books was limited to Adobe Digital and MS Reader on PCs. The interaction is very similar but to be able to read from an e-ink display is beyond words.
Some concerns I read previously about the fiability of the button on the Cybook are, to me, greatly exagerated. I didn't find any fault with the action of said button, it's very responsive with the kind of assuring «click» we so often miss from those soft touch buttons. So, even if I can't really compare my Cybook with the likes of Kindle or Sony PRS-505 (which I was about to order but ultimately decided on the Cybook mainly because of HarryT opinions and the vast number of ebooks supported natively by the Cybook) I must say that I'm pretty satisfied so far with this little piece of hardware. |
