Plus if the folder is always com.amazon.kindle/files/books then surely an exception can be made to this block for this one subfolder in the code assuming it is calibre block?

As this is the default download location for Fire HD then it either needs fixed or a warning message displayed otherwise people will wonder why calibre will not see their books on a fire.

thanks
I see!
The issue is all the other stuff, not the books, that all gets looked at to see if it is a book
Calibre Companion lets you configure alternate locations, why not Kindle. Amazon's Walled garden. People should only want to buy books at Amazon and never use something like Calibre

hi theducks

sorry have I upset you in some way? Your answers are very rude and not helpful for the issue.

I understand that Amazon have a walled garden, just like Google and Nook and Kobo etc.

I am not a programmer so I don't know how Calibre is written I can only go on Kovids response and ask the question.

From Kovids response it seemed that Calibre blocks these folders by default, no matter what people select, due to the many files, causing a slow down.

If this is the case then surely a code change can allow you to set an ignored folder with an exception or the code could be removed with calibre leaving the box unticked in device setup so that when people select it they get a warning about slow scan speed but it will work.

All I am saying is that as this is the default save location that you cannot change because Amazon have hard coded it in, then surely Calibre can help users?

I am sure the 2 of us with the problem in this thread are not alone but many people know about calibre but not about this forum.

thanks

ANDROID rules Excludes that folder. Them's the rules
As SASSBS states Kovid's response seems to indicate a Calibre rule for Android not an Android rule. We could both be misinterpreting what he said, but then again maybe we are spot on and you should go back and read Kovid's answer.

I don't think you do see. How does your answer remotely apply if (and it's a big if since I don't have a Fire) all of the Kindle books are located in that specific directory on all Fire HD tablets? Given this possibility there might be room to carve out an exception or two in the Android area.

@theducks - You may not see this because you help so many folks and usually have a way of getting straight to the point, but often your short, curt answers combined with the overuse of emoticons does come across as rude.

Indeed, it is calibre that blocks the android folder, because that folder often contains large numbers of junk files. Enumerating files over an MTP connection is slow, so the android folder, alongwith a few other folders like music and video and samsung and so on are ignored.
