I can't imagine a new tablet entering the market now would have much innovative to offer. For me the differentiator would be the infrastructure behind the device.

Kobo has never really marketed it's 7 inch tablets as, ummm, tablets, but rather as sorta enhanced readers. The Arc has had access to the Play store since day 1, so you could always use it for music and video. It might just be that Kobo is changing course and marketing and promoting this as a tablet.

I have to agree. I think the tablet marketplace is crowded and becoming commoditized. I hope whatever is coming is in the area of E Ink or similar, such as a self-lit color E Ink. However if I had to bet, I'm afraid I would guess they will announce some service to go along with their tablet(s).

I am annoyed that we have to wait til 6 PM eastern time!

The only thing I want to know, is are they going to offer a lighted Mini. I am unaware of any rumors in that direction, but crossing my fingers. (I know, I keep repeating myself).

Nothing wrong with the firmware I am using....I am sticking with 2.6.1 though. I did have issues with the one after that.

My main gripe is the database, which, when you have a large number of books, slows everything down enormously, added to that is the keeping of cover pictures in one directory, which is limited to a certain number of images.

I personally suspect (or maybe it's just wishful thinking) that it's a color e-ink reader. My wife is betting that it's a "specialized porno edition with color, sound, and special attachments".

That would bring a whole new element to the "Active Romance" category (I think that is the term, could be interactive romance, I know romance is mentioned somewhere though) of books

I had to re-read that a few times in case I was missing something obvious. What a bizarre assumption to make.

And the "beyond the book" stuff just makes me shudder at the thought of Kobo pushing the social reading aspects even more on their ereaders....
