See your internist first, to make sure it isn't something medical. Next, how long since your last ophthalmology exam? Not just the eye exam to check your glasses prescription, but a full blown visual field test, dilated exam of your retina, and macula mapping to make sure you don't have something going on behind your eyeball.

But since it's seasonal, it's probably an allergy to something indoors, with ongoing mild sinus things giving you the headache. See your internist to rule out anything medical going on in there. And to see if there is any evidence of a brain in there yet....

Colds? Headaches? The cures are simple:

1. Spend a day rereading all of marc's posts. If you aren't cured, who cares? Your mind will be either reeling or numb so it won't matter.

2. Make AVATARS for ZELDA_PINWHEEL! The efforts will be therapeutic and you'll be minutes closer to the end of your ails (no, not ales).

3. Download and read any book posted by Madam B. It doesn't matter which one. They're lovely books that I've usually never heard of. Of course, not to leave anyone out, that's pretty much true of all the books in the upload section.

4. Find a book (make it a simple one if it's your first) that you'd like to read from Project Gutenberg and that's not already in our library and learn to convert it to LRF, PRC, and IMP format for all your friends here. Be sure to check out HarryT's tutorial. This will definitely make you feel better.

5. Grab a shotgun and several rounds and hunt down some of those steenking lemurs, unless of course the squirrels are actually at fault in which case you'll need a lot of rounds.

6. Zany Carter Deluxe. Need I say more?

7. Post a new thread somewhere here and meekly ask the question "So just what's wrong with DRM, anyway?". Then sit back and enjoy.

8. Sing the Llama Song three times in a row.

9. Vote for pshwynk and Patricia - early and often.

10. Give karma to everyone you can as often as possible but put cryptic comments that will puzzle the hell out of the recipients.

Feel better yet?

and if none of that cures you, you're probably already dead !

i was going to make a selection my favorite remedies there but i couldn't choose so i'll just applaud the entire list. just one thing : i believe there was a typo in number 5 : i fixed it for you.

llama llama duck !!

(disclaimer : breakfast first, *then* zany carters. need we say more ?)

so just what *is* wrong with drm, anyway ?

How about a cure for tension neck/eye/head-aches -- when Excedrin (or generic) is the only thing known to fix them, and they won't let me have NSAIDs (the aspirin in Excedrin) for another 5 days?

Oh, right .... the Zany Carter Deluxes. How could I forget..... Think I'll do a Pink Squirrel instead. That'll get all you squirrel haters (lovers?) on my case, and I'll have something to read!

Most all the previous ideas are very silly, and seem unnecessarily holistic. If you're cold, get warm.

I find a good remedy for being cold is to put some clothes on, or turn up the heating. Then you won't be cold anymore. Also, the tropics and sub-tropics are less cold, so you could always move to, I don't know, Florida, or, failing that, Noosa Heads.

Cheers,
Marc (I lied about the "put some clothes on" bit)

I have some neck problems at times (not helped by some minor whiplash earlier this year!). I use a wheaty bag, microwaved for a couple minutes.. Bit like a hotwater bottle, but drapes over bag & shoulders better..

Some examples of what I'm talking about are here (no affiliation etc - just googled it): http://www.thewheatbagstore.com/acatalog/index.html

For colds, I second Zelda's suggestions, especially garlic (but my husband, having just been shown the Bun-bun vs. snake thread, commented "some people apparently worship rattlers.") If you have a lot of mucus you may wish to avoid tomato products in addition to dairy.

For chronic headaches, see DixieGal's recommendations, but I would also add that many headaches are in fact due to clenched jaw, so seeing a dentist for tooth occlusion problems (causing grinding) might help. Alternatively, another common cause of my headaches is inflamed turbinates (in the sinuses). Pseudoephedrine helps (the imitation no-signature-required stuff does nothing for me), or Afrin nasal spray (but be careful how often you use it, as it can cause a dependency).

I also found, after being so advised by my doctor, that taking a multivitamin every day, plus 500mg vitamin C three times a day, and three capsules of echinacea twice a day really helped build my immune system back up.

For tension neck/eye/head aches, I recommend either/both hot tub soaking and yoga. In particular, there is a common yoga warm-up that involves letting your head hang forward, then gently rolling it back and forth. I find that it really helps my neck muscle tension problems. For eye/head aches, it might be worthwhile to see if you're also experiencing inflamed sinuses, e.g. due to allergies.

I am not a medical professional. I'm just passing along what has worked for me in the past with similar ailments.

We've been doing the Question of the Day thread so long that all the "similar threads" are past efforts.

DixieGal - done all that and no evidence of a brain at all , just a bunch of blather surrounded by those d*** llamas. Thank you

UncleDuke I perfer to mix my gin with gin not just add equal parts.I cannot even look at a vermouth picture never mind the inventor however olives must be slightly marinated before eating usually by splashing them with gin or better yet taking a syringe and and injecting gin into them. By the way do you prefer olived with pimemento, gralic or hot pepper stuffing?

A 1 pound bag of generic uncooked raw rice in a (new) man's tight-weave sock works equally well. Tie it closed with string or dental floss. Nuke for 1 minute. Ahhhhh! Great for warming the tootsies. Might want to lessen the nuking time if using it on the neck -- experiment. Can be re-used daily for more than a year.

But that web site you mentioned shows a circular shape for around the neck. Good idea! I'll have to make one of those and try it out. The yoga head-hang feels good too. I'll do it more often, and see if it helps.
