All of these threads have their place, but it's courtesy to fellow users to telegraph which is which. I came into this thread because its title suggested to me that this was a new user having trouble operating their Kobo and not knowing (being new or distressed) how to format their Subject line informatively, and I wanted to help them with their Kobo. That would be my only critique, and it's a relatively small one in the grand scheme of things. |

I hope that both David and Peter know that my earlier post has nothing to do with their amazing work on the calibre plugins and driver. Over the years, I have messed up my Kobo devices, but I have not yet bricked one. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I have also not attempted to do much other than use it as provided with those plugins and drivers.

Count me in on the morons side. I had to wait 30 minutes (
) for my Mini to factory restore, so I really thought it was bricked. In the end it did start anew on its own. BUT...It is still giving me an "error communicating with device" in Calibre when connected, although no books are on it anymore. So obviously something went wrong in the fw, and no Peter, I did not load any "funny" file on it, I only loaded normal epubs. I always eject the Mini in Calibre, and verify that is indeed not found anymore on my explorer list before pulling the cord. I never updated it on my own but nicely waited for the on-air update, I did not change the internal sd card, and I did not drink the blood of my first born while attempting to cast a deadly spell on the kobo's dev, although believe me, I really feel like it right now. I don't know what is to blame, and sincerely I don't care anymore, I just want it to work, and although your collective work for the connection between calibre and kobo devices has been indeed magnificent, it is a disgrace to imply that users that have problems with their devices have simply been looking for it to happen. |

Anyway, I fell that if you're "playing" with your Kobo in that way, and you haven't made a backup, you're jumping into the pool without checking if there's water in it. |

The thread had a whole different title yesterday, and this is what I was referring to . And saying I personally did not "play" with my Mini, and yet here I am. Probably one of those "bigger and better idiots" ?It is is such a nice, warm and cosy feeling here in the Kobo part of the forum I must say...

![]() I often wondered why there were so many YouTube instruction videos showing how to revert to earlier versions of so many different programs. Right up until I had to revert Firefox, Skype, iTunes, GoogleEarth, Bittorrent, etc., etc., etc., to their earlier versions. Even 'official upgrades' can be bad. Sometimes... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Stitchawl |

Not mine.

"I'm sorry Dave. I can't allow you to do that." (Said in my best 'HAL' voice.) I specifically did NOT sign up with a Kobo account just because of this. I knew I could sideload books easily from Calibre and had no need of Kobo's control. Right now I have about 350 books loaded onto the reader, which will keep me going for the next year or so. I'm sure I'll add a few more when my favorite authors put out new work, but those too will get sideloaded. I won't allow a company, be it Kobo, Amazon, or even Microsoft dictate what upgrades or changes will be made on any of my devices. I've found life is simpler that way. Stitchawl |
