I'd just get a referral number and give it out. Not a satisfactory solution, admittedly, but probably better than trying to get rid of them, particularly if you're in a business and don't want to offend prospective customers. (Or potential neighbors!).

We have a store. If they want to contact the owner of the store we advice them to send a letter to her store, the mailman delivers them to us and she picks them up once a week. If they want to contact the owner of the building we give them the name of the foundation.

I try to stay friendly but when I get called a bitch because I refuse to give out a non-listed telephone number or if I haven't got the contact details of the foundation at hand I tell them goodbye and hang up.

I expect it will be a while longer, in the next couple of weeks they start stripping the building and they don't expect that the store will open in 2013.

???? Ten little legs? Why Pooh, do you have friendly centipedes in NC? The ones we have here aren’t very friendly. They’re BIG, and they BITE! Prolly not as big and bitey as your NC snakes though.

They wouldn't hold still for the count - so I may have lost count and started over .... 8 legs are too many for my friends!

And yes, we do have centipedes in NC too - and they bite! More than snakes do .... *shiver*

Man, I REALLY hate centipedes. I'm not afraid of them as I am of spiders, but I don't hate spiders. Spiders I can usually just swat with a rolled up magazine. Centipedes require cinder blocks to kill.

I love those things. They're one of the best natural pest controls on the planet. Keep a few of them in the house and you'll never have to worry about roaches. I used to bring them in the house every time I found one outside, but the wife started claiming she was allergic to them. We used to have one who lived on our mailbox when the kids were kids. My daughter named it "Jumpy".

There's one aspect of their behavior that gives me a bit of a kick and somewhat puzzles me at the same time. You know how when put your face close to examine one they jump on your nose? Is that suppose to frighten you? Is it their way of saying, "Hi! Want to be friends?" Or do they assume they've landed the big one?

Seriously? Jumping spiders and gigantic armored centipedes!!

I now have my feet curled up under me and not dangling off the chair (plus a few extra lights on to make sure there is nothing hiding in the corners).

I had managed to get a couple of hours off work today to go to the Neil Gaiman booksigning.

However, yesterday when I walked past the bookstore the poster announcing the signing and saying that no registration was required wasn't in the window anymore. So I googled and found that the bookstore was surprised by the interest, normally 20-100 fans come to a signing, now more than 300 "threatened" to show up, so they changed it to registration required and, of course, they're booked full.

Shouldn't a bookstore know how popular an author is? To make it up they will soon have a competition on their website where you can win a signed copy of one of Gaiman's works....

Finding them in the tub or or sink at least allows one to use a spray can and a lighter.

So it's NOT just me! I always interpreted this as an attempt on my life - they usually land on my ear or get tangled in my hair! One actually managed to land on a lens of my glasses -- talk about horror! If I took the glasses off, I couldn't see the spider. If I left them on, I did see the spider! A true Faustian dilemma!
