@BWinmill
I haven't read any reference book on my eInk device (which is my first, and which I own since a week). I'm interested in reading reference books on that device, but I agree fully with your concerns. First it depends on the type of the reference book. When it contains lots of info grafik, data tables, photographs with important content, ... and other non-text parts: you can forget about it, of course. When it's PDF, forget about it. But may be the most readers of this thread are completely happy with the usability of their Kobo. I have no idea. |

I'm probably one of those, I don't feel the need for any shortcuts. 99% of the time I am just reading a book from front to back, my only interaction is to turn a page or sleep/wake the reader, both can be done with one easy motion. I use other functions so infrequently in comparison that it doesn't really matter if they take a few extra motions to carry out.

My problem is that I persevere in using my Mini for work, too, which is where switching etc becomes important. I am well aware that a tablet would be much better for this, but I can't stand the screen - I am not alone in wanting an "e-ink tablet", but it is definitely a niche market, and I am not confident the large student market will ever take a big liking to e-ink, as kids nowadays are very used to lcd screens, unlike middle aged people like me ![]() |
