Do PWs still have screen issues

			Hi,

Looking at switching my Kobo Glo to a paperwhite. Only ended up with the glow as the paperwhite I got on release and a few dots on the screen and went back. Very tempted to get one again, the Glos screen is top notch but the backlight keeps going off and you need to use the screen to get it back on, which is impossible in the dark. |

Since Amazon have released new models that past two years in a row around September/October, you'd probably be as well waiting to see if they announce an updated version of the Paperwhite.

Totally agree about waiting. Some think they may well put the sound back in the new PW as Amazon also owns Audiobooks now and has specials on them very often. Kindle Touch was the last e-ink with speakers.

my iriver Story had quite a few noticeable very small black dots scattered here and there. You only notice it during reading if you look for them. I see none on PW. quite an evolution I observed indeed, since the eink screen on Story predates even Pearl...

contrast is awesome too, really. Reading at night on Story without a nearby lamp was difficult, now on PW it's a breeze (even with light level at a minimum) |

I wonder if the people saying they've no issues now could maybe state whether they could see the problematic colour hues in the original bad Paperwhites? Some can, some can't. I'd like to know whether to start recommending the PW to friends/family. Thanks!

I got one in the beginning of July. No problems at all, I think the screen is great. I am very fussy about screens and I was very worried about getting one with issues. I was going to wait for the next gen but then I realized that I needed the light for summer time (family vacations, sitting on the poorly-lit balcony at night). I love it and I'm glad I didn't wait! I haven't seen one with the color issues but I do believe I would notice that. At past jobs I have been notorious for complaining about my monitor until I got a better one.

Also I scored nearly perfect on that quiz where you line up the blocks in order of hue. So there are my qualifications.![]() eP |

I was one of the original skeptics about the PW screen issues and thought that people were being overly critical / OCD. However, I ordered a PW as a gift for my daughter in May....compared to my PW screen that I purchased last December, her screen was poor -- uneven lighting, color hues and blotching. She didn't think anything about it but it bothered me so I sent it back and the new one's screen was absolutely perfect. I suspect that there are still problems but not as frequent. If you get a poor screen, you can send it back for free and order another one. It might take some time but it is well worth the effort.

I think that error occur randomly. I bought 3 PPW, 2 is ok and 1 have a problem in touching function. I'm sending it back to Amazon.

I got a brand new Paperwhite last week and the lighting is very uneven, particularly along the bottom, with big discoloured blotches. It's really terrible in comparison with my Kobo Aura HD.
