They both write a new cover.jpg, but one plugin must refresh the covers and the other doesn't. If you want your cover to update quickly minimize your cache size.

I don't think changing cache size will force the image to refresh immediately, wouldn't I need to do something like PgDn, PgUp to force a reload of the image into the cache BR

With the new adjustment to the way the covers are rendered caching the covers as little effect. Now if I had the option to cache them all it would be interesting. Alternatively if I set the cache to 300 if it could render 150 covers ahead and 150 covers behind my current position that would be great.

I see the effects of the cache but with my work flow it is always behind me. With a small VL of 300 or 1000 books the whole library can be cached. Why is there a 3000 book limit on the cache?

No particular reason, I can increase it, but be aware that every cached cover consumes about 100KB of RAM (depends on the cover size of course).

This is maybe something, what you can put as additional remark in quick tip and help-file (a guess). I like to cache the complete library, it's really fast.

I've made a change to have the grid view render the currently visible covers if you pause while dragging the scrollbar slider (i.e. you stop moving but dont release it). It also renders continuously if you drag the slider "slowly". This keeps rendering fast if you do a large or quick scroll, but allows you to gradually move through the covers using the scrollbar without needing to keep on releasing it. At least, that's the hope |

That's exactly what I was thinking of. And it works very well.

The grid is indeed very nice. It would be even nicer if there was a "tool tip" with the title and author that was shown when you hover over the book with the mouse cursor. Like what is shown if there is no cover. Perhaps after a second or so. That would make the grid more usable with small images and without the details panel open. |

Just a heads up. I came home and ran a search: Sluggish as all get out. Process explorer says Calibre is using 836M of VM . All I left running this morning was the content server. |

@theducks: Note that using the cover grid view uses up a fair bit of RAM, especially if you increased the number of covers in the cache. Did you do that?
