Firmware 2.8.1 ?

I didn't notice any difference in speed on my Mini, I only have about 400 on it.

Pretty much the same for me.

They took out the top margin for epubs again, which I don't care about but some are happy. No other changes that I have noted.

i installed 2.8.1 on a backup image on a another sd card and you are right i can't see changes except that page turning is quicker and smoother.the text seems to merge into the next card instead of flashing.


i wonder what would happen if i put wrote the kobo image to the nook and put the nook image into the kobo.

would they still work?

Well, although a factory reset after the update got me to a device that didn't have double, triple, quadruple page turns for an entire two days, unfortunately, that did not last.

The double, triple, quadruple page turns are back. I've tried only swiping, only tapping, makes no real difference. I've tried tapping out further from the bezel edge, makes no difference.

It's not as frequent as it was at first, but I'm worried the frequency will increase as time goes.

Both my Aura and mini have these problems. My T1 also has the occasional page turn problem with the buttons. I've learned to live with it. My 600 and 350 and my mothers kindle do not and never have had these problems, nor my tablets.

The big advantage of the kobo for me is the tap to change page although the wide bezel of the Aura makes it a tad difficult one handed.
I'm pretty sure you are tapping/swiping just fine. Not meant to be a test in precision I am sure. One example is that with the mini you can tap 3/4 on the slider bar and it will take you back to the front. Again on the mini you can tap on the far right and it will page backwards instead of forwards about every 8-10 pages, although this seems a bit better now.

But they are what they are. I bought the Aura because I was going to work in a northern small community for 6 months and wanted a new toy to play with Don't actually regret it, but not particularly proud of the choice as I already had a mini and should have known better

I think you would be happier with your preferred color, but then again what happens if you get another faulty screen

Hello together !

this thread made me join you as member here, so I thought I'd say Hi here. Took me the Last 5 days reading all 28 pages (always here and there a few pages whilst doing other things), now that I'm through my two cents onthe topic and a question (direct me elsewhere if it's misplaced here).

I am on a Aura with 2.8.1, with 2.6.1 I had massive Issues with USB connectivity, Computer wouldn't recognize the device after a few connects, only thing to restore connectivity was Factory defaults, annoying, but worked. Hasn't happened in 2.8.1 so far.
As others mentioned, for me page turns feel faster now.

My Question is about the bottom bar:
above the pagenumbers there is room for one more line of text, which never is used, I wanna use that line, as I have VERY bad eyesight I use relatively large Fonts and therefor wanna use as much of the screen as possible. On some pages there are two lines missing on the bottom, midsentence it leaves them free and begins on top of the next page. I am talking about sideloaded ePubs, in which I set any margin setting I found in calibre to zero.
I may do some "screenshots" this evening to better show what I mean.

It is a well known issue. Kobo does use more space at the bottom than they really need, but, that is the design of the device. There can be some other things going on.

Firstly, to see how much space is not being used, tap the centre of the screen and bring the bottom menu up. Whatever is below the line is what Kobo has reserved for the bottom menu. Any space above it, is what is unused. If that space is less than a line in height, you can't do anything.

If the space is more than a line in height, then you are probably seeing the effects of widows and orphans. This is a CSS setting to prevent lines from a paragraph being left at the end of the screen. Or only one line on the next screen. Kobo uses a default of 2 or 3. Setting this in the CSS of your books to zero will reduce space wastage.

As to the margins, you are better to set them to "undefined" in the calibre conversion. This allows the you to adjust them on the device with the reader settings.

I don't have any double page turn issues (Kobo Aura, 2.6.1), but had them on my Touch, though that got better with later firmware versions. I don't think I have changed my tapping habits (though I can't be sure) so it could be hardware/firmware combinations. (Once I had a "dead" area on my Touch where taps where not registered... Next update and the problem was gone.)

i know one is android and one is linux but it is still hardware.


could some one else try it as i'm too busy and also poor and don't want to cause any damage.

More than useless, it seems horrible to me at first sight. The removal of the blank line at the top makes the text of copyright free ebooks (e.g. Gutenberg's) start all the way at the top without any margin at all. This looks terrible at least if you have a black bezel (don't know about the white one).

Why haven't they made this optional at least? Or have I missed something.

(And bummer: I just realized Calibre won't work with the Kobo anymore untill its next update. Probably in a week or so? Should have thought of that before turning wifi on...)

by the way i hate piazza and i don;t understand why people like it.i can hardly eat 1 slice without feeling bloated while some people devour all 4 slices then ask why they are fat.

The operating systems can possibly be swapped but they won't work and it is very possible to damage hardware using software.

Swapping won't work for the same reasons that you cannot play playstation games on a Nintendo.
Different chips, addressing etc. Basic electronics.
