I use this for reading in bed or watching a movie.
It's a little bigger than I would like but it works great on all my Kindles and Kindle Fire. I own a 3Feet Stand and only use it when I am my desk otherwise it falls over. |

What an amazing article!
![]() You may have wondered why I (in jest) posted images of missal stands. Well yes, I am a clergyman - but, you know, you can't beat a book cushion on the altar. It gives the option to set the altar book at just the right angle. I have a hankering after an A4 (US letter) size tablet for use on lectern or altar. Lots of folk use 10" tablets for that, but (at my age) I think it would be too small. I need 16pt to read comfortably in those circumstances. Maybe an iMac would do! <grin> |

I use a premium iPad stand with my Android. The stand supports landscape and portrait modes, folds up to be super compact for transport, has an amazingly durable metal frame with a soft rubber surface to avoid marring the tablet, it provides easy access for the charging cable, and rests nicely on any relatively level surface. Oh, and it cost a dollar from a dollar store.

But you only have two eyes!
Any half way decent 24" monitor with a small format computer bolted to the back running Windows or Linux would do the job; except, I suppose, the iMac looks tidy at the back. Trivial chat - back to the serious subject of a comfortable read. That pyramid shaped cushion is available in UK, but is rather large for a 7" tablet. Now if I were to talk nicely to my wife . . . |

I use the little beanbag semi-circle neck cushions ( frequently sold in airports). Work perfectly when sitting in a chair or reading in bed. I use them for both my kindle and iPad. No need to hold either one up - they are perfectly supported by the cushion alone. As beanbags, their shape adapts as I shift positions. An extra bonus is that in winter, i can keep my hands warm under the covers

My Nexus 7 case is this type (though not in white!)
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/sd-tablet...ite-p35716.htm I am (or was until distracted) happily reading a history of the Celts on the Nexus 7 in landscape, two column mode. I am lying right back in a sofa with my feet on a tuffet. As I type this post the front edge of the Chromebook is at my navel and the hinge is resting half way up my thighs. I call this "slob posture one", and it's very comfortable. I can read webpages for hours like this, and now I have Overdrive Read that too works comfortably. But back to the Nexus 7. In slob posture one the landscape Nexus balances on my abdomen, and the screen is well placed for reading. A tap from either thumb turns pages with minimum effort. If I shuffle a bit I can put the landscape Nexus 7 on the flat topped arm of the sofa, but page turning is not quite so convenient. |

Does anybody use a stand that is big and sturdy enough for a 13" device (1.3kg/2.5pounds), with adjustable angles?

Many of the modern ones, however, are not adjustable and set the book at a low angle which is suited to a modern presentation with the priest facing the people across the altar. They even come in perspex and look much like the Ikea laptop stand referenced earlier. This one would serve, if it is important enough for you to spend $150 http://www.matthewfsheehan.net/index...&ProductID=996 ![]() You can see the multiple slots at the rear of the base that allow the adjustment. It will fold flat when not in use. A hunt around the Church Supplier websites might provide alternatives. |

The solution may suit others, if they need such support many hours a day. $150 is quite a lot of money compared to the Ikea stand, but of course they are "hand made" in small numbers from real wood. They come up from time to time on eBay - but are often hideously over carved offerings! I have seen to horrors hiding in the back rooms of churches. |
