Perhaps the swearing is what I need to try, as well. Though I have a completely different (and very cheap) phone/camera. (I don't have a USB connection OR a removable memory card-- as far as I can tell, the only way to get pictures off the phone is to send them to myself through a phone-to-email interface that doesn't seem to work.

In fact, the imagery gels very nicely with how I picture you in my mind (no, I don't think you look like either B.A. or George Peppard - it's just the vibe), and I choose to assume that that's what you actually did.

So, unlike some of the parties you attend then.

Cheers,

Hmmm ... well, I look more like George Peppard than BA anyway. I probably did what I usually do in really horribly stressful situations. Laugh.

And, as to parties, right again .... I am not generally level at parties, until the very end on the night when I am in a corner of the room, horizontal and level.

They are having another party tonight, and I managed to forget all about the one last Tuesday. I do not see making it over there tonight. Too much to do before I leave tomorrow morning.

I have to get the doggies in the car in a few minutes and take them to their hotel. They really like it over there ... nice big "room" where they can be together, and all their friends barking away like mad.

The only thing they hate .... well, it's not there anymore, but the first time they stayed there, there was a large pot bellied pig staying in one of the spots. Both girls were alternately fascinated and frightened of that pig (it was a rather large pig). Now, when they have to go past that spot on the way to the exercise run ... they get waaaaay over to the other side of the walkway.

So, off I go.

When I was a teenager, living in rural Mississippi, there was a hog farm in the next pasture. Sometimes the hogs would get out, especially in the fall when there were hickory nuts under our hickory tree. My smallish black dog (named Brownie) would got barking at them and chase them down the road. When they got tired of running away, they'd chase him back to the house.

On one got hurt but they all got plenty of exercise and ate up the hickory nuts too.

Well, no one mentioned it, and I only saw the pig once (it was in casual dress on that occasion ... no makeup). so I don't really know.

Hog hostage drama set to end

Bruce the pig will be taken to a piggery. (Emma Sykes)

An 80 kilogram pig that has been terrorising a woman who tried to look after it is expected to be captured and sent to a piggery on the New South Wales north coast this morning.

Sixty-three-year-old Caroline Hayes says she has been unable to leave her Uki house to use the farm's outdoor toilet at times because the bald pig, nicknamed 'Bruce', is aggressive towards her.

Ms Hayes says the animal recently bit her on the leg when she tried to go to the toilet and pushed her into her bedroom, where she fell over.

"I picked up a broom and poked him out with it and he snapped it in half with his mouth," she said yesterday

Rangers from Murwillumbah Council tried to catch the animal on Monday but had taken a cage that was to small.

Yesterday, a pest animal ranger from the Tweed Lismore Rural Lands Protection Board, Len Hing, visited the pig.

Mr Hing says while the creature is friendly, its large size makes it difficult to control when it is hungry.

"I wouldn't like to see the pig go as a pet anywhere because he could become a potentially dangerous animal," he said.

He says the pig will be removed this morning and relocated to a piggery.

"The pig isn't endangering anyone. He's nice and quiet," he said.

"I'd advise people not to go into the area where he is so that we can take the pig out of the area on a nice, quiet basis."

Ms Hayes had claimed the pig was as big as a shetland pony when she called the ABC yesterday morning.

She said the animal had come from a home two kilometres away but its owners could not handle it and let it loose in the rainforest.

The woman said she and her neighbours began feeding the pig when it showed up at their homes 11 days ago.

"When I found it, it had 15 ticks in its eyes which I actually took out," she said.

"One of its eyes it couldn't see out of, so I put cream in it and I fixed its back up, but apparently it's actually claimed my land and claimed my place."

Ms Hayes said the pig became aggressive when it wanted more food.

"It started getting very pushy, started pushing me around, so I started to get a bit frightened, until the stage that it started knocking on my door at 4 o'clock in the morning, actually head-butting my door," she said.

Ms Hayes, a self-described animal lover and vegetarian, said she had not stopped crying since the mayhem began.

Funny, his name being Bruce, hey?

Cheers,
Marc

I'd like to vent and rant about my allergies, which kept me home today. The allergist only seems to recognize that I'm allergic to dust mites (nasty little acariens) but when I was tested, the fall pollen scratches did swell up, just not while I was at the office. My head hurts, my nose won't stop dripping, and I just feel generally completely wiped out.

While I'm in a ranting mood, I'd also like to go on for a bit about the "critical thinking" class I'm taking, but frankly, the allergies haven't left me enough energy for a good rant. So if anyone else has more energy and is willing to rant for me, it would be much appreciated. Don't forget the bit about college professors who assume that graduate students have the intellect of not-too-bright nine-year-olds.

As a fellow allergy sufferer and a former graduate student (and student of both critical thinking and some really idiot professors), you have my complete total and unadulterated sympathy. I hope you feel better soon, and may your professor start acting like an actual teacher .... very soon.

Considering that your average college student acts like a not-too-bright six-year-old, I can see where they come up with the idea.

Yes, but students generally sink to the expectations of the teacher. In this case, the professor starts every class as though she expects to have to argue for her (ordinarily reasonable) positions, and because she acts as though she expects us to disagree or be confused, several of the students are. So we spend much of the class listening to people argue over the meanings of words, or having the need for gender-neutral language hammered into us, when probably we could have dealt with all those issues quite simply if the professor had taken the approach that she expected us all to be able to understand the material, but we could ask questions if we didn't.

I just think if you go into an interaction expecting a fight, you're a lot more likely to get one. I think she thinks she's "stimulating thoughtful discussion," but from where I sit, it looks a lot more like "stimulating trivial arguments."

oh boy, stimulated trivial arguments, my favorite... that sounds really exasperating neko, i'm sorry. it's too bad i can't lend you one of my magic pinwheels to wave over the class and instill a bit of zen, so that the discussion could be approached in a more rational and interesting way...

oh wait, you MADE my magic pinwheels. any chance you could get them to work in this instance ?
