Both ways. On the mini twice, with calibre at least 10 times probably more like 20. 3 different epubs.

I was surprised because it always used to set the reading position to the start when I did this. I also checked a couple of times to see that the book had actually been deleted. No errors though so no big deal.

I am thinking of going back to 2.6.1. I feel I can't even use it for kepubs now, it's too unreliable. And I liked the slider bar to page through shelves. This is on my Glo. On the Mini, the latest update kept the slider. Has anyone else gone back? Are there any cautions?

Just do a factory reset before reverting to an older version. Otherwise the results can get interesting.
