I have an old paperback of Titan and borrowed a copy of Moonseed from a friend...I have yet to read either but I don't think the NASA trilogy is a trilogy in the beginning, middle, end sense. They seem to be totally separate stories that may take place in the same world with the same companies/characters/etc. Please correct me if I am wrong, if so I will be sure to start with Voyage. |

I read Cinnamon and very heartwrenching and excellent tale. Plenty of humor, bloodshed (they are pirates, after all), great characters, and descriptions of strange foods.

Which was an excellent Tudor mystery. I've even bought the next in the series using a Kobo voucher.
Next I read "But As A Soldier, For His Country" a freebie by Stephen Goldin. Essentially a short story, it's unnecessary (but good) if you've read his Eternity Brigade, which explores the same idea at greater length. Now I'm onto one of Baen's August bundle, that I bought in July: Tour of Duty by Michael Z. Williamson. A collection of his short stories (most/all Mil SF). |

Do persist. As I recall it does drop you into the action without much hand-holding, so you have to struggle a bit to work out what's going on.

Just finished "The Blue Train" by Agatha Christie. This was her 9th book, and was originally published in 1928.
In this book, Poirot investigates the murder of a woman and the theft of some fabulous emeralds on a luxury train running from Paris to Nice - the "Blue Train" of the title. An excellent story, and a welcome return to form after the dreadful "The Big Four", her previous novel. Highly recommended. |

Finished The Snapper. Great dialogue, and the book shows how much Doyle was developing as a writer moving on from The Commitments. I really looking forward to seeing what he does with Jimmy Rabbitte Jr in middle age in The Guts. On to The Van.

Finished Pacific Glory by P.T.Deutermann. The book has a thrilling climax at the Battle off Samar (battle of Leyte Gulf), told from the perspectives of a USN destroyer commander (the novel's main character) and a SBD pilot off an escort carrier.

![]() Interestingly, Blue Train was one of Christie's own least favourites, but it's not easy to see from the outside that she was having a tough time writing it. It's way better than Big Four. (Also, as predicted, HarryT has caught me up. I can't even press on with Seven Dials until I've read Secret of Chimneys.) |
