Oh dear, reading that thread is a bit like reading Russian for me. I guess I can figure out where that preference thing is. I don't want to start my calibre right now, but I assume its a folder I can copy. But then I would have no clue as to how to get that onto a newly downloaded calbre onto a new hard drive, or after a crash.
Its quite amazing that I have been able to backup stuff in calibre all this time. I can't even remember how I got some of the plug ins to work, especially the alf one. I think I would be royally screwed if I had to install it all over again.

Its late now, I have to read over it again in the morning, but there is a reason I tend to stay away from the calibre forum. Its all going over my head there.

Heck, I can't even figure out how to get fonts on my paperwhite and I read every single post in that thread, some more than once.

My brain is not what it used to be.

You just want to back up your Calibre Settings Folder.
Mine is found in
C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\calibre
Replace name with whatever your profile name is.

Ok, found it. So in case I have to re-install calibre, do I then after the install just delete that calibre folder under app data and copy paste the back up one in there? That will work, right?

Oy my brain is not working right today. Pain meds make me all fuzzy and my cells slow down like molasses.

I install then add the folder back but you could probably do it the other way around.

Hmm, but won't it create a new folder under that app thingy when you do a new install and to put the old one in you have to first delete the new one?
If you install and then add that folder, there will be 2 of them then right?

I am getting more confused by the minute. I think I am going to go to bed and read a bit.

I just overwrite it. It should work either way.

I am struggling with my book. the dialogue is so awkward!

Do you have an external drive? You can use a Ubuntu CD to boot from and copy your files to your External Drive so you don't lose anything.

This saved my butt last year when a storm knocked out something critical on my laptop hard drive and it wouldn't boot up, safe mode or normal. I put Linux on a thumb drive (I'm pretty sure I did it via a thumb drive, not a CD, but not 100%) and was able to save everything that was important to me.

I assumed my laptop was dead...and was hearing bad things about Windows 8 (that was due to be released in just a few months), so I went ahead and bought a new laptop. Then I took a chance and reimaged the old laptop with my original Repair Disk and it's running fine...I gave it to my Dad's wife, who's been using it since December!

Anyway, being able to use another OS to boot in and get my stuff was wonderful (and why I finally decided to start putting at least *some* stuff in Dropbox!)

It's useful too if you have an USB with calibre portable, or you have more than a computer with calibre.

Can anyone explain this weirdness?

I was searching the painfully slooooow Penguin US site for collections and bundles and noticed Kensington titles popping up in the results. The imprint is even listed as Kensington.

The entire Kensington catalog is not present but there is a lot of it. Is/Did Kensington get sold to Penguin? Is this some kind of partnership?

Weird.

IIRC they have some kind of distribution deal with Penguin.
