HarryT uploaded some Anna Katherine Green a year or so ago, and I rather liked it. So I've converted a few more, and hope to add the available remaining novels in the next few days.

At first sight these mysteries seem to involve high-minded women and courteous gentlemen solving puzzles with great politeness. Then, after a while, one begins to realise that Mrs Green is quietly drawing attention to the fact that women are decidedly marginalised in late 19thC America. The lady detective, Violet Strange, has to keep her profession quiet, otherwise her father will disown her and she will lose her position in Society. Miss Amelia Butterworth is seen as an old maid and her amateur status is repeatedly contrasted with the professional detective, Mr Gryce. And there are women who have to endure husbands with gambling addictions, drink problems, and duplicitous tendencies. Altogether, unless she has an independent income, female happiness is precarious and dependant on male goodwill.

Edgar Wallace books

That's it for now with the Edgar Wallace books; the half dozen or so I've uploaded over the last couple of days have brought us up to date with all that have currently been released. Obviously I'll do others as and when they are released.

"Sapper" eBooks

With the five books I've posted today, that's currently it for the available books by "Sapper", the pseudonym used by the British author Herman Cyril McNeile, one of the most popular and successful British authors of the 1920s and 30s. More to come as and when they are released.

Is anyone working on Burton's translation of A Thousand Nights and a Night? I've been looking at getting it on Fictionwise, but didn't want to jump until I found out if someone here is at it.

Bookbinder has uploaded the Scott translation in LFF:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12146

and there's a selection of the Tales in RWood's Harvard Classics:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11591

But the Burton translation would certainly be an interesting, though big, project.
The 16 volumes are freely available in html at the university of Adelaide site:

Although I'd like to eventually get started on e-books, the thought of doing an entire 16 volume upload makes my head spin.

I've just downloaded it: 9.8MB.

It may take up to a week before I can get it formatted the way that I would like ( - there are thousands of footnotes). But I think that I'll have a go, unless someone else is working on it.

It's taking rather longer than I thought. I'm still hyperlinking the c5,500 footnotes. But I hope to upload the book in a few days.

Is there a regex way to do this? semi-automated way?

This IS the most painful part for me; putting in the footnote link <--> back link. BUT, it is most rewarding when I actually get to use the ebook! I try not to prepare ebooks that don't (double negative intended) have this feature!

What I usually do is manually copy the <href ="#linkname"> link and insert a <href > copy of itself in front, then edit that first occurance to change it to <a name="linkname_back">. Then repeat same at the end of the file where the footnotes are stored. Tedious!!!

I am using Regex, Nick. I can link up to 400 footnotes an hour. I've done 3000. So only 2,500 to go.

This is how I'm doing it:

A very fast way of linking footnotes.
1. Open Notes and Links (in the Edit menu)
2. Open Find and Replace (Also in the Edit menu).
To find footnotes of the [x] shape, where x is a number.

3. Put this into the find box:
\[[0-9]*\]
Select the regexp option.
4. Ignore the ‘replace’ box.
5. Click ‘find’ to find the next footnote. It will be highlighted. Add it as a note to the ‘Notes’ part of Notes and links.
6. When you have reached the end of the notes, then use the same technique to add the numbered links.

Thought I might have a go at transcribing York (The Little Guides) by Joseph E. Morris B.A. (1889 - 1947), published in 1924.
While this is, arguably, still in copyright in the UK (D+70) it's no longer in copyright in Canada (D+50) - so I assume it will be acceptable to upload it? (Of course, since I'll be re-typing everything manually, in not a lot of spare time, it might just take me another 9 years to do it anyway ) Unless anyone can recommend some freeware speech to text software...?

H. Beam Piper posting complete

I've now finished posting the (currently available) public domain works of the American SF Author H. Beam Piper. These are in three volumes:
  • Paratime Series
  • Terro-Human Future History Series
  • SF Anthology

The final volume contains all the stories not in the other two series.

Posted for both Sony and MobiPocket.

Enjoy!

I'm looking forward to seeing the result of your hard work on this one. I know what a pain the few footnotes in the books I've done were (although worth the effort).

I did a quick look for a good cover image. Here's my attempt. It's easy to change the text if you want different wording but like the picture.
