I seem to remember this was possible when the shelve feature was first released.

When reading several books in a serie, it's rather stupid to go back to home page, select shelve, then navigate all the way to the correct shelve.
The last shelf you used will appear as a tile on the home page, so just a quick tap to get to the next installment. I read a lot of epic fantasy so was happy to see this on the UI.

This is the problem with the internet these days - anyone who expresses a strong opinion, or calls others on their failure to reason, must be a troll. In this instance, calling me a troll is a way to not bother engaging your (lack of) critical thinking ability.

I agree, although it needn't be that way and doesn't seem to be for most things with software options.
The margin choice for example, eventually led to books opening on the wrong page. My books still open on the wrong p-age about 1/2 the time and I am wondering if this might not be due to the fact that I prefer unjustified text. I am testing it on the mini but not for long enough to know yet.

You are right, there used to be a correctly functioning back button. Kobo gives and Kobo takes away.

For the Glo and Aura, you get a tile for that shelf on the home page.

Let's see:

Close door
Engage seat belt
Move gear to Park
Insert Key
Turn Key to Start
Once car has started, release key to Run

Oh, look, six steps.

And in more modern cars, sensors can enforce the close door and engage seat belt rules.

Or, if you don't have the keys:

Break windows or jimmy the door
Rip ignition key cover off
Isolate Power, Ground, and Start wires
Pull wires, exposing conductive wires
Twist Power and Ground wires together
Touch Power wire to Start Wire until car starts

Oh, look, it still takes six steps to hot-wire a car.

If you take steps like the above into account, you will have to add further steps to the brightness setting

1. pick up the reader
2. open the cover
3. power the reader on (or wake it from sleep) - if you don't have a sleep cover

All that just because someone said that he thought the extra taps were annoying...

Well, I finally got tired of waiting and upgraded manually. Seemingly without a hitch.

Do the tiles take you right back where you were?

I would prefer back buttons everywhere myself
And there used to be a couple at least that worked right.
And yes I know I can use the search, but I am not fond of the search.

The tile is labelled with the shelf name and reopens that shelf. I don't normally use shelves so the only two shelves I have contain 4 and 6 books so only one page needed to display. I could add my Grantville Gazette collection to a shelf to see if it goes back to the last book opened on that shelf.
