The "details" were discussed extensively with fw. 2.5.2 and I don't want it to reproduce it here, but it is the reason why I canceled my pre ordered Aura HD.
Can you let us know how you came to the conclusion that it is no longer possible to change the size of the bottom footer? Perhaps the technique used with 2.5.2 no longer works but does that exclude the possibility of any changes being possible?

What I keep wondering (and this is not Kobo specific but the Aura is a prime example) why the big bezel at the bottom. You need some to hold the circuit board, but this could be more evenly distributed. The mini bezel is slightly larger at the bottom while the Aura bottom bezel is about 3 times larger at the bottom. Makes reading with one hand more difficult.
I generally hold my Aura one-handed and when I'm not hitting the screen, my thumb sits on the bottom bezel which is pretty much the same width as my thumb. If it was narrower, I would be covering part of the screen to center my thumb on the bezel. Just add me to the membership list of the Society of Gorilla Handed Males...

David

Found another positive change in 2.8.1, though minor and one probably most don't care about

In the webbrowser in previous fw, if you added more than 9 or 10 favourites, some (the ones on the bottom...which were completely randomly placed...i think) would just disappear. If you deleted some, they would reappear, but it was like they were being bumped off the screen with no way to reach them.

Now it states page 1 of 1, if I add more favourites, you get page 1 of 2, etc, which you can swipe to get through. Don't know what the limit on pages is (and I'm not about to add that many bookmarks to find out!), but a definite improvement!

(....and back to why kobo does or doesn't do things right...)

Not sure, but indeed it feels more reliable now. Double pages turn are getting rare.

This said, yesterday i got a crazy 3-4 pages instant turn... But it happened only once, for ~500 turned pages since I installed the new firmware.

I got one today, one click and it turned three pages. Overall seems a bit more rare than before, although I've never had them as frequent as 8-10 turns.

My Aura still is on firmware 2.6.1. Should I keep it there or let it upgrade to 2.8.1? And if it is better to keep it on 2.6.1 and wait for 2.8.2 or 2.9, how do I prevent it from automatically upgrading?

No, it doesn't fully exclude that changes are still possible but I haven't found it yet.

Too funny LOL. Perhaps you haven't read carefully what I wrote. Or you are being sycophantic towards your target audience. You complain, I don't. You're posting about your displeasure and I'm posting about the joy of just reading. Sorry the two don't marry up. Whatever the case my point was more of a forest for the trees thing. Life's too short to get upset and throw down my reader over the number of taps the light takes or the series sort / non sort or any other perceived issue that doesn't affect the actual reading that I do and would never be cause to throw down my reader and buy a different one. But don't let that stop you from doing so.

So what your saying is that if an automobile were designed so you had to take 5 steps to start the ignition instead of one, that would be just fine.

You are being obtuse.

I do so love reading relentless positivism rather than discussing ways the firmware can be improved. If I want to hear this sort of thing, I'll join the Samaritans. Yawwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

When reading a book from a shelve, is there a way to go back to same shelve when the book is finished, rather then on the home page.

I seem to remember this was possible when the shelve feature was first released.

When reading several books in a serie, it's rather stupid to go back to home page, select shelve, then navigate all the way to the correct shelve.
