Interesting oddment

I was playing with my Aura and tried adding demoModetimeout to the .conf file and it put my Aura in demo mode. Since I doubted that anyone in the local Chapters knew how to do this, I did a bit of digging and found that I could turn demo mode on by searching for demo mode on. Turning it off is done by searching for demo mode off.

ON: type "demo mode on" in the search bar.
OFF: type "demo mode off" in the search bar.

Something is no likely to be very useful to most but makes me wonder what else can be done from the search bar.

That's quite neat. Even if I don't want to turn my kobo into a demo

Now it's your job to find out what other changes can be made that way.

I would try things like "tools" "Diag" "diagnostics" "list" "help" poweroff suspend

It's far easier just to look at strings in the library

I'll have to give that a try. I just thought it was rather humourous to be able to run scripts from the search bar and started looking to see what I could quickly find.

@danger: Thing to remember is that the majority of functions are the same across all Kobo eReader models; as you've probably seen H/W comes in two basic families; Mark 3 and Mark 4; Mark 3 being the original two version of the Touch (N905 and N905B) and Mark 4 the remainder (Low Cost Touch, N905C, Mini, Glo and Aura).

And I would suspect the Touch and Mini. Perhaps the next time someone posts that they have a Kobo in demo mode, this will be much easier for them than editing the Kobo eReader.conf file to remove the demoModeTimeout string.
