That is one approach, but it may not be the desired approach Once you start littering the interface with options, a subset of users will be driven away because of the increased complexity of the device. And yes, this is a realistic issue given how a number of people are modifying ebooks in order to reflect their different aspects of how ebooks are formatted as well as the number of people who desire random features like file browsers or a different home screen (etc.).

As someone else pointed out, swipe does work. You just can't tap. It took me some trial and error (I'm a tapping kinda gal) to figure out the sweet spot for always having my swipes recognized. It turned out to be at the very bottom of the page. YMMV.

Aha...yes, I have. I didn't have the issue with 2.6.1b, though. I'll remove it and see whether it goes away again....

Nope, makes no difference in this case. I'll hang a few examples off the bug.

Ah. Thank you! Well then, I like the update. A thumb swipe at the top works for me.

Does this release do anything for the tap zones? All I really want is the ability to have a tap on either side do a page forward and a sort by series.

For instance, in a book I read the unknown word: "blabla", then click the word for definition, the dictionary opens, and gives me: "blabla: related to blablating"
Thanks, but I still don't know what blabla or blablating means !!!

As the OP alluded to, this is NOT a Kobo decision (at least not directly). They are NOT ALLOWED to allow this functionality on the French dictionary they are using due to licensing restrictions. It is not a bug. Unless they decide to go with a different French dictionary they can't add this functionality.

If Calibre cannot send the meta data to the device... is it still ok to send kepubs to the Kobo device? Or is there a potential for problems?

Tapping on the sides has always worked well for me when reading, and continues to do so. It is the paging throgh various lists, like the library and shelves, that no longer can be tapped through.

You can set the tap zones in "reading settings". Sort by series isn't included in this FW update.

My problem is that when I am deep into a book, I will sometimes shift the kobo without thinking about it. Then, the next time I tap, I will sometime tap on the wrong side and go the wrong way. THe vast majority of my taps to go backwards are accidental and have to be undone.

Since 99.9% of the time I want to tap forward, I would love an option that made it easier to tap forward and harder to go backwards. A tap-anywhere-except-the-menu-spot to go forwards and drag to go backwards would be perfect. A tap on the bottom 2/3 of the screen to go forwards and a little strip on the top to go backwards would be nice as well.

Well, this may be pretty much a kaufman-specific issue, I think . I have a similar taming-specific issue: I would like the settings menu at the top to only be invoked from the middle of the top (like the reading settings is only invoked from the middle of the bottom). I keep tapping it open by mistake.

The best you are likely to get is the setting that gives you a very wider forward zone and a narrow back zone. I use that, btw.

Yeah, that's the best option at the moment. If we're talking wish lists I wish they'd narrow the back zone down to something similar to how it is on the Kindle's so it'd be easy to reach over it with my thumb without misjudging (often). Or maybe if they'd give something similar to the various options Moon+ gives for zones.

I will admit i'd also love the top / bottom page turn option. I kitchen change how I'm holding the Kobo and have to readjust the page turn option

It might be, but I would be surprised if it was. Don't most people spend almost all of their time moving from the front of the book to the back? If the average book has 500 pages, aren't you going to go forward about 500 more times then you go backwards? Doesn't it make sense to make the thing you are going to do almost all the time as easy as possible? If you hold the kobo in both hands, wouldn't it be nice to be able to use either thumb to move ahead?

If the answer to these questions is yes for most people, then this isn't a kaufman-specific issue. If not, then perhaps you are correct.

I've been hoping for more tap options since I bought my Touch more than 1.5 years ago. And have been asking for them, too...

I can turn the page in either direction from anywhere on the screen by using a very small swipe motion. The swipe only has to be about 10-15mm long in the appropriate direction to cause the page to turn.
