Post ADE 1.6 Install & Help Guide

We've just posted an install and help guide for the newly released Adobe Digital Editions 1.6 at BooksOnBoard. As with most new releases, the software has nuances that are giving our customers (Sony Reader users and others) fits. The guide can be found at our ADE 1.6 eBooks Install Guide & Help Page.

Clicking on many of the headings takes readers down the page to an illustrated section, showing screen shots. It's not as sophisticated as we'd like it, but our support team learned about the issues the same way our customers did over the last several days - the hard way. Support wanted this out there ASAP to help simplify the path for customers. (It's been particularly tough on some our new UK Sony Reader customers.)

Any feedback on how to improve the guide (and anything else on our site) from members of this forum would be appreciated. Mission here is to make the experience as seamless as possible for readers - no small chore. Most of our readers do not have the time or interest to drill down as deep on the technology as many members of this and other forums. For a $5 book, it can be argued that it's hardly worth spending hours to figure out how to read it, especially when the mission is to curl up and relax with a story.

We continue to try to simplify the install for those who don't have the time or inclination to understand the nuances of operating systems, DRM, etc. (Yes, we hate what DRM does to ease of use, but recognize it as still a necessary evil for many titles and authors.)

One of the main things we're trying to communicate is the importance of having your reading software installed before downloading your first DRM eBook. We've recently set up roadblocks in checkout to try to guide our readers in that direction. It's cost us some sales, but the trade-off in customer satisfaction is more than worth it. However, it's still not enough for many users and we need ongoing feedback.

For those who prefer not to communicate through the forum, we can also be reached through
