I don´t like much my Paperwhite in dark room, in this case I prefer the light cover sony t2, it is better for my eyes.

But I am happy with Paperwhite in low light ambient, is very nice and i haven´t remember change battery for light.

So I want a sony prs t2 with light for this moments, and light can be off for the rest ;-)

I never said you did need that unnecessary layer, but don't ridicule the rest of us who hate clip on lights. I do hate them and find the integrated light the perfect solution.

I don't understand - you hate clip-on lights? Why?
Do you at least agree that the screen looks so much better with clip-on than with integrated? And does not hurt eyes like integrated?
Actually I should not ask this. It is an obvious truth, no room for discussion whatsoever.
I am not speaking about that dubious special effect to make the screen whiter
I am speaking about the case when the external lighting is not enough.

I can only assume that you never used a really good clip-on light.
It must be very stable once clipped on. Like an integral part of the reader, not falling off.
And it must have more than one led and a special reflector to ensure very even spreading of the light.

But for T1 and T2, Sony covers with integrated light are quite good. And quite convenient. It is as if integrated light, but much better than integrated into the screen itself. Added convenience - AAA battery.

Exactly. Sony light cover has a pretty good light.

With integrated light, if the light is strong - it hurts the eyes, if it is set to lower level - it is not enough of the light and because of that it hurts the eyes differently. And with any a bit higher lighting level the screen looks nothing like paper, more like lcd.

With clip-on, the screen looks like paper, it is similar to using clip-on light on a real book.

BTW, if you set the light in PaperWhite to the absolute minimum, is it still glowing in the dark? Or is it equivalent with switching off?

In Paperwhite, in low settings, light still glowing in the dark, in new sony I want light completely off, like kobo...

I said so first.
The fact that the clip-on light is of fundamentally better quality than the integrated light cannot be a topic for any argument. It is far too obvious.

Some other things may be discussed - is the quality trade-off worth the increased convenience, etc.

Because Sony has the cover with light policy, this solution also increases convenience but without any trade-off in quality.
Therefore I support this Sony policy.

Hmmm...English is clearly not your native language. Perhaps if you went away and looked up "opinion" and "fact" in a dictionary you would be better equipped to talk with grown-ups?

If I had a PaperWhite it would drive me insane. Amazon is on pretty slippery grounds here. It is a deception.
The whole selling point of e-ink is that it is not glowing like lcd because real books do not glow.
If PW glowing cannot be switched off, then it is harmful to the eyes to some small degree while the user may not realize that.
I smell a class action suit here. You may get some money from Amazon.
Or some free books

I have, and my opinion is that the integrated light is better. You are entitled to your opinion, just don't try to pass it off as a fact.

I have. I never found a light that worked well with my DX, and the integrated light of my Aura does exactly what it needs to do and I see no reason at all to muck about with an external light.

But you're entitled to your opinion. I just don't share it.

I'm with Bilbo (Hang on, does that make me a dwarf with a silly name?), I prefer the integrated light to clip on lights.

I always had the M-Edge Covers with the M-Edge illuminator light, or a Kindle Lighted Cover, either way none of those 'external' lights are as good as my integrated light. The fact that I don't have to carry an external light, just my Kindle, is also a factor in my opinion that the integrated lights are beneficial for an ereader.

Without an integrated light I would simply use a tablet. If Sony don't incorporate this technology then I fear they are destined to be left behind. A few die hard Sony enthusiasts will not keep their ereader arm afloat against the might of Kobo and Amazon.

I specifically tried on Aura with Ozeri Flex.
Aura has a very even lighting, but in complete or semi-darkness, I never was able to find a level that is comfortable for the eyes or that makes the screen to look anything like normal non-lighted e-ink.
But with the clip-on Ozeri Flex on the same Aura I got it at once. With both power settings. Feels like a real book with a clip-on light. I tried that too
