HTML based rss reader for ereaders
Hi folks,
The title is quite explicit! I have a Kobo Aura and I'd like to read my rss feeds with the browser. So far I havent found a simple rss reader that would work, besides Google Reader but my feeds usually only show me the beginning of the article and I can't get to the website to read it all, I don't know why. Moreover, gReader is dying. I'm sure some of you have found a solution, please share! |

I only use the browser on my Kobos to download books from my dropbox account and only if I've forgotten to sync via calibre. Using the browser is just not smooth enough for normal use for me.
I tried last night connecting to my tiny tiny rss site and that worked quite well. You might try Feedly as that's what most people leaving Google Reader seem to be going for. |

But Feedly requires an add-on, no it will never work!
Actually I had trouble even with Reader because it seems the device can't open a new windows, thus when a link is supposed to open in a new tab/windows, it simply won't work. How was is on your tiny tiny rss site? |

OK I had thought you could access Feedly with just a browser.
When I tried tiny tiny rss it defaulted to the mobile version of the site and whenever I clicked on a link it opened in the same window. To be fair in a lot of my feeds I'm used to reading them in the tinyrss window (used to do the same with Reader). I did try one of the BBC News feeds - which never give more than a single line in the summary itself so I have to click on the link. That seemed to work but tbh I didn't spend a lot of time on it. If I remember I'll do some screenshots tonight. You're aware that tiny tiny rss needs to be hosted somewhere? |

It wasn't too hard.
However I have now checked more thoroughly (and set up telnet so I can take screenshoots which is cool) and I've found that even the mobile version won't allow you to open links so you can read the summaries but that's about all. So sorry about that it's probably not fit for what you're after. |

Too bad...
I mean, look at wikipedia. The browser isn't suited for regular browsing but wikipedia is an good example of a mobile website you would want to read that's easy to handle. I wish we had something like this for RSS, so that we could read news without starring at at a shiny computer screen. I have quite a lot of entries and I bet some of you as well so that would be useful. What we need is a rss aggregator that's completely minimalistic and that open links in the very same page, not a different tab/window. Is it too much to ask for? ![]() |

Unfortunately not, it loads the feeds indefinitely and shows nothing...

I gave it a try to a feedshow.
Not a perfect solution but it works (at least with Kindle 3G) Flawlessly imported my feeds (417 items) from the GR takeout (the feeds remained in their categories) drawbacks: - no way to contact its coders - no any forum (project abandoned?) - no full screen mode(2 or 3 panels mode only) [Image violates guidelines for size - MODERATOR] Last edited by Dr. Drib; 03-11-2014 at 06:58 PM. |
